Learned Something New About SjS and Gastroparesis

Towards the end of my visit with the rheumy yesterday, I asked her about why the incidence of GP and SjS--is is autonomic neuropathy or what?  She believes it's due to small fiber neuropathy.  We didn't go in to detail about it because it was the end of a long appointment (I got my monies worth yesterday!), but wanted to share that with others that are struggling with SjS and GP.

Thanks, Bonusmom, that is interesting.  I have mild autonomic symptoms compared to others.  When I first came down with Sjogrens, my blood pressure would spike and I would have anxiety every day for about a month.  They tested me for an adrenal tumor and sent me to endocrionoligist for thyroid work up.  They seemed confused and didn't really solve the issue.  I've also had blood pressure drops and heart rate increases but mild compared to others.  Also have numb tingling feet and burning pain that can go away for months at a time.  When I mention things to my rheumatologist, she explains away everything so you are fortunate to have one who understands this aspect.

Dear BonusMom,

     THANK YOU!!!!!  I have both! Thought they might  be and so did my former neurologist. I wish she had not moved to Philadelphia.
It's too far from VT to travel.

I think that that doctor is very right. The reason I say that is I learned something from hubby's aunt many years ago. She had diabetes and developed a colon that had uncontrollable loose stools from diabetic neuropathy.She had to wear Depends all the time and was just devasted over that little present that diabetes gave her. Another neuropathy that reared its ugly head.

I have read recently about the neuropathy of GI tract including the gastric paresis in published articles on internet and also in diabetic magazines. The sjogrens is related to so many of the other autoimmune diseases. In fact, you probably saw me mention that I read an article that stated that they are beginning to think that the sjogrens sort of comes first or is the precursor of all the other autoimmune diseases.Wouldn't suprise me a bit when you see all the diseases that one can have along with the sjogrens.
