OH God, I think I am having a case of GERD.  I ate a bowl of popcorn earlier and it's never bothered me before.  I was just getting off to sleep and this big ball of fire in the center of my chest.

I got up and took some tums and went back to ed.  Hurt worse, got up and took something like Prilosec and a bunch of tums, drank a little water.  Oh, it is bad.  I know what it is so I'm not waking hubby up about a heart scare.  What pain.  I know I should prop my head up in bed.  This is only the second or third time I've ever had this. Will try and go back to bed now.  Maybe it will be awhile.  Lucy

I understand your pain and sometimes popcorn can be the worst!  I have been to the hospital because of it because nothing would work.  I have tried drinking hot water; it helps sometimes.  I swear if I ever have a heart attack I dont think I would know it.  I hope you feel better now.  It will go away but it takes a while.

Oh Lucy honey!

How are you feeling this morning??  Any lingering soreness from your night of slow burn?

Gentle stroke to your brow!

Hey Lucy,

How are you this morning?

I hope you got some sleep....let us know how you are doing!

Lucy,

I have bad GERD and have noticed that popcorn does not agree with me anymore.  I do put a little butter on it but cannot figure out why it bothers my stomach so much.  You have my sympathy because, right now, my stomach is my biggest drain on quality of life.  And, I'm pretty dry so that is saying something.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have really bad GERD and the thing that helps me when I'm having that burning pain is crackers. I've tried Tums, Pepto Bismal, Mylanta, Prilosec (which I take 80 mg of daily), but when I'm having it really bad, just regular saltine crackers help more than anything.

My GI doctor recommends not eating within 3 hours of going to bed. That includes drinking liquids. Also avoid certain foods in your diet, like anything that tastes good. (Well, the list includes chocolate, sodas, caffeine, anything in a tomato base, fried foods, acidic foods like citrus, spicy foods, etc. That doesn't leave much, does it?)

Raising the head of the bed is good, but when I tried it, I kept sliding down. I'm ordering a 7" foam wedge to put under my pillow to raise my head up at night. (When I was still with my soon-to-be-ex-husband, we had bought an adjustable bed, which was awesome. I miss it so much!)

I hope you were able to get some relief and sleep. You should probably see your doctor and request some medications to prevent or reduce GERD.

Hugs,

Lisa

Hi Lucy,

I'm sorry that you're having such stomach problems, and I sure feel your pain!  GERD has woken me up several nights (like I need anything else to wake me), and even though I take a PPI, it doesn't seem to help much either.

I too tend to slide down the mattress when it's up to high as well, and it's not a pretty sight either! ;) :D  I do have a wedge under my mattress, it sure helps.

And I know that I'm parroting the others by asking how are you feeling today?

Take care of yourself, okay?

Hi everyone,
I mainly stayed lying down on the couch or in bed today.  Didn't eat but nibbled a few crackers.  Had strawberry shortcake for supper.  I still hurt, but I know what I had last night was a really bad one.  I've had them before, but really infrequent.  I did do a big bowl of popcorn thinking "not many calories in this' but i didn't think the whole bowl would sit between my b----bs all night and the next day.  Will have to be careful about popcorn.

Will also be careful about eating much before bed.  I knew you guys would sympathize becaust I read so many on here having this same thing.  Lucy

Dear Lucy,

I hope you continue to heal up that burnt spot and don't get another for a LOOOOONNNNNGGG time!

Love to you,

I'm glad you're getting better, Lucy.  :)

We love popcorn at our house, too.  I have found because of GERD that I will sometimes sit down with a larger bowl of it--but  I need to make sure I'm really hungry (with empty stomach) and I make it my main meal.  Then I'm usually okay with it.

At other times, a smaller helping, even a handful if someone has made it and the aroma is wafting around tempting me,  works well.

The GERD is a reminder to enjoy and chew and savor my food. A painful reminder!   :D

Does any one else get husks between teeth and under gumline when eating popcorn?

Patze

Oh yes Joy, got them stuck all the time (thank goodness for an electric tooth brush).  I pretty much don't eat popcorn because of all the husks getting caught, but it also gave me heartburn not to be believed.
