Hi All!!  I know I wrote over the weekend about my fainting on Friday night and ending up in the ER.  They decided that I was dehydrated but knowing how much I drink I didn't buy it.  I wondered if perhaps it was due to sjogrens but none of you seem to have had that happen and all my labs were normal.  Well, it almost happened again yesterday.  I felt it coming on while in a coffee shop after teaching class at the college.  I just sat there so I wouldn't faint and then after 30 minutes when it wasn't gone, I texted my friend (the neurologist) and said "it's happening again, what should I do" - fully expecting her to say go to the ER.  She immediately called me and came to the coffee shop.  From there, she had called my PCP and brought me right there ( we got right in - what a nice benefit to having friends in the medical field - so lucky).  He checked my blood wondering about hypoglycemia but it wasn't that.  The two of them discussed and they decided I needed a tilt test.  So they called the cardiologist. (I live in a fairly small town and it just so happens that I bought my house last June from this man!!!) so I got right in!!!!  I flunked the tilt test with flying colors!!!!!  While I don't like having a heart issue, I'm sooooooo grateful it's not the sjogrens.  The heart thing is vasovagel syncope.  Apparently not a big deal and he gave me meds and I feel better already.  He called me a few hours later at home to check on me and I told him I felt fine, just still shakey from the stress of being so scared.  He said don't be scared, you don't die from this, we'll take care of it.  I was honestly just afraid that every doctor would just blame everything on the sjogrens and not really check everything out.  I'm scheduled for an echocardiogram next week just to be sure there is nothing else, but he doesn't expect there to be.  Isn't it strange that I'm happy I have a minor heart condition???

thanks for listining,

Phew! And so glad that they found out what it was and that you were able to get in so quickly!
It helps to be able to go on and know that you can feel better!
Hugs,

Hi voiceteacher

It's wonderful to have an answer, especially when the explanation is something straightforward that can be treated and isn't life threatening.

What a great description of optimal health care, which shouldn't only happen because you live in a small town and have close friends who are experts in their fields.  This is what should be available to every single human being on this planet!

I hope you're feeling better really soon.

Take good care of yourself - Chickpea

HI Voiceteacher  :)

Wow - I'm sorry you have a heart problem but I'm delighted they got to the bottom of the fainting episodes and also that it's been done so quickly!
It's wonderful that you have medical friends.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi there VT, so happy to hear you found a resolution so quickly.  However, I'm not a doctor, but I do have heart problems.  As far fetched as it may seem, it's quite possible the Sjogren's contributed to this for you.

Our Autonomic Nerve System controls a lot of our body functions.  Sjogren's can and will affect this.  For example, a lot of us have periphrael neuropathy, balance problems, breathing problems, most if not all can be connected to your Autonomic System.

Don't rule out Sjogren's when things pop up.  It is a great giver of gifts.  When the moisture in our systems drys up, it affects all of our body.

Again, I'm no doctor, just a receipent of Sjogren's gifts.

I think its definately caused by Sjogrens.   I was just diagnosed with vasovagel today as well.   The sjogrens has effected my autonomic nervous system and Vasovagel Syncope is a dysfunction of that.   So yes...it does have something to do with Sjogrens.
