Title: Amatryptiline
Post by: Dolly Dimples on July 15, 2009, 03:24:01 PM
Anyone taken Amatryptiline?  if so did you have an exeptioally dry mouth, and does one have this dry mouth go away ,

or is it there as long as one is taking this drug?   Hubby is round the bend with dryness, and never has a drink out of his hand..

He is taking this drug for very painful feet, which wake him at night and play him up no end during day..
                               thanks, Dolly

Dolly,

Years ago, I took it's cousin Nortriptyline and I can tell you I had a dry mouth the whole time.  I took my meds in the evening and my mouth was very dry thru the night and half way thru the day.  I took a very low dosage for migraines.  Hopefully some others will come along as I know this med has been discussed before.

I was on it for sleep for quite a few years.  My mouth finally got so dry that I had to quit taking it.  My mouth is still dry, but not nearly as bad as when I took the Amitriptylin.

I take 50mg at night and yes, it does make a dry mouth drier.  However, I will trade that in any day for the pain relief at night and being able to sleep! xx Ailsa

I took 25mg a night for a while when I was awake all night with nerve pain... I didnt notice mouth dryness anymore than usual... I am not taking at the moment and hoping the nerve problem has settled for a bit..

Thanks to you all who replied to my query.

Hubby is not as yet getting any great relief from his pain.

he will stick with it until his next appointment, when he has finished this course.

Hope- that I myself will never have to take this drug as I am really bothered with dryness of mouth, eyes and all!

                                                        Cheers Dolly.

Hi  :)

I was prescribed Amitriptyline for nerve pain and had to stop taking it because it made the dryness worse. The doc persuaded me to try it again. I take 10mg every night. A higher dose would prolly be better for the pain but the 10mg does give me some relief and the dryness doesn't seem worse than usual on it. 25mg I couldn't tolerate.

Take care - Scottie  :)
