Title: New Caregiver Anxiety
Post by: wordnerd on July 13, 2009, 08:02:12 PM
I finally picked a new caregiver to replace Sarina who left last Thursday.  I miss her so much already.  I am so nervous about the new caregiver.  About it being awkward and uncomfortable.  Getting used to someone I barely know helping me shower.  I'm also worried about us becoming too good of friends again like Sarina and I did which made it hard for me to be the boss when I needed to be.  I know this is just my OCD and anxiety disorder talking, but as tomorrow approaches I am getting more and more anxious about it.  I'm worried she will judge me and think I'm just lazy or something.  I don't know why I'm worried about that so much.  I guess that's a fear I always have about people and it would feel horrible if the person taking care of me thought that about me.

I'm sure it will be ok.  And if it doesn't work out there's always someone else out there.  Thanks for listening to me vent!

Hi Lauren  :)

I'm pretty sure I remember you being very nervous about Sarina before she arrived!  I don't think it's just OCD - I think its a really natural reaction to a new situation. I'm also sure it probably will be awkward just to begin with. Dealing with new people is awkward. I'm also sure it will settle down pretty quickly.

I'm sorry you've lost a good friend but I hope that you'll make a new friend very soon.  When do they start?

Take care - Scottie  :)

Good luck.  I know Sarina was special to you but give the new one a far shot and don't compare her to Sarina.

Well the first day with the new caregiver went great!  I had a blast!  Tomorrow she is taking me to see the new Harry Potter movie!  :D

I have a good feeling about her and really think she is going to work out.  Thanks for all the kind comments!

Hi Lauren

It's so good to hear that your first day went well.  Don't give yourself a hard time for being nervous beforehand - it's difficult negotiating any relationship especially when you're unwell and need to rely on someone for support.  It sounds as though you were able to be yourself with her so no wonder she liked you and the day went well!

Hope you enjoy the movie.

Take care - Chickpea

Glad to hear things have gotten off to a good start with your new caregiver. Any change like that is bound to be anxiety-producing. When you spend so much time with someone and have to trust them with so much it is reasonable to be nervous about how things will work out. It sounds like you've done a good job of finding someone, though - that's two in a row now!

G'day Lauren, first off I would like to say I am happy you are up to posting again.  I have been off line for a while myself.  So it was great to see the Wordnerd handle again.

Lauren, I just read about your new and old caretaker! I'm so glad for you that it went well. I must say, I'd be nervous about a caretaker too. Good luck!
