Hi
I got an update from my son in MO today. He had an exploratory procedure done yesterday and the docs are pretty sure he does not have ulcerative colitis - he has Crohn's. They also think that Pred hasn't worked as well as they hoped it would and they had to drain an internal abcess, which he is hoping will relieve some pain as he's on pretty heavy duty pain killers and wants to come off them.
All in all he seems to be very stoical about the whole thing and is managing to retain his sense of humour. Despite hospital findings, he is feeling a lot better than he did.
Take care - Scottie :)
Hi Scottie
Thanks for the update. I'm glad your son is getting some relief, although I bet it's still a scarey situation for him (and you). I will keep in him in my prayers.

Hi Scottie,
I'm glad to hear your son is feeling better than he was. It must be very hard for you to be so far away from him when he is sick. Didn't you say a while ago that you were able to talk to him via skype? That has got to help (a little).
Hope the doctors find the right combination of meds to help your son feel better. With Crohn's he'll just have to be careful with the foods he eats.
Thanks for the update.
Hugs,
Bucky
Thanks for the update Scottie. Sorry about the Crohn's but at least he knows now what he is fighting.
I hope all goes well for him. Hang in there Mum, he's in good hands over here.
Hugs, Pooh
Scottie, Glad to hear that your son is doing better. I don't know how you do it----being away from our kids when they are sick at any age is hard. I think I read lately that there are some new drugs for the U.C. and Crohns. At least there are meds that help plus knowing for sure what the diagnosis is will make treatment more specific. Getting rid of that abscess has got to make him feel a whole lot better.I'll be thinking of him. Irish ;D

not good to read its chrons , but yes it is good to know what your facing, and thoughts with both of you, hope he gets to reduce his painkillers soon and the flare up settles down for him
T xx
Just wanted to wish your son well and hope he gets the correct treatment now that they know what they are dealing with x
Thanks everyone :)
He said they were going to put him on something other than prednisone but he doesn't know what yet. At present he has two weeks on Percocet followed by two weeks of Vicodin and keeps alternating that way. He says he has to time doses so they are not at maximum effect when he has to drive, cos they make him feel 'stoned'.
He said they injected his his intestines full of botox so he reckons his insides must look younger than his outsides just now!
Take care - Scottie :)
Oh Scottie,
I hope he gets better soon, now that they know, he can control a diet accordingly. I pray he is out of pain soon.
Botox is a funny thing, how they use it.
I am glad he has a cute sense of humor.

Hi Scottie....
Sorry I'm late in reading about this.....but I'm so glad to hear that your son has some answers...that should help to at least know what he is dealing with!
Also glad to hear that he has maintained his sense of humor...we all know how important that is! Let his wife know that she better keep her eye on him...all the girls will be after him because his intestines are so young and cute now! :D
It's wonderful to hear Scottie, that he is making progress with this diagnose. I hope he finds relief real soon and learns to cope with it.
Hugs, Pooh
so sorry to come back and here about your son scottie all my thoughts are with you
all the best

Scottie I am keeping your son in my prayers. A friend of ours has this condition and it is all important that your son follows the diet given and try to de-stress his life. Easier said than done. Just knowing what he is dealing with is probably helping him to cope. Stay strong MOM. Your main help will be to listen and sooth his worries. We all know what good medicine this is especially coming from your mom.
