Title: Symptom question
Post by: southerngirl on June 27, 2009, 08:12:07 PM
Does anyone else have very painful feet? Mine have been very sore for about 5 months on and off. No numbness, but the left foot esepcially the last 3 toes feel crushed, more so in the morning..I can walk fine and it gets better as the day goes on. Also alot of stiffness in the morning.
Are these SJS symptoms or do sound like something else?

When one is going thru a "flair" how long does this last? I thought I'd be back to normal by now, but not the case.

Ohhhh, yes!  My feet bothered me for about a year before I became poorly and was diagnosed.  When I have done too much, they are the first to show signs.  I feel they won't bend enough to use stairs properly and it really feels like the bones on top and sides will crack.  As you say, it does wear off during the day for a while.

I have the same problems in my hands and wrists too and have just started with awrist splint for at night and a support for in the day if I am using the laptop or writing a lot. Feel for you beverly and southerngirl!! XX Ailsa

I'm not diagnosed yet, but my feet are so stiff (and other parts of me) when I get up each morning.  I limp and walk awkwardly.  Same thing happens after I sit still for a while too, so I normally limp from the car to the office as well  ::)

Thank you all for your replies, I was starting to really worry there could me more going on with me. The rheumy I went to 4 years ago as well as my sis who is a RN just said dry eyes/mouth stuff which I do feel like my eyes are gritty often, so much that pass on the eye makeup except for work. But, now 4 years and 1 child later I have many other things going on, constant leg and joint pain and the feet issues. I plan on going back to rheumy soon as see if there are any medications I can take to make this all better.
Good luck to you all..sorry you are also going thru painful feet but it does ease my fears a bit.

Can I ask if any of you have other AI's or just SJS at this time?

Hi Southerngirl  :)

My SjS is overlapped with lupus and I also have autoimmune thyroiditis. AI diseases often seem to run in 'packs'. Of course, having something AI doesn't exclude the possibility of getting something else entirely, so when in doubt, get it checked out!

Take care - Scottie  :)

Welcome! I was recently diagnosed with Sjs and Lupus. However, I am fortunate NOT to have dry eyes, just dry throat. Even the dry throat is hard to discern since I live in Phoenix and in constant air conditioning!

I have very aching feet - try the Crocs Relief shoes... not regular Crocs. These are so comfy and cushy I never want to take them off.

What hurts me the most are my shoulders and arms. Lots of burning and tingling.

Hi Southerngirl,

The main reason I went to the Doctor was the extreme pain in my feet especially in the morning. They felt stiff and really like they were on fire, it would take a little bit for them to loosen up and calm down. I have bad joint pain in other places but the mornings were so difficult with my foot pain. The pain was on the bottom near the toes mostly, but the whole foot hurt. My rheumy did tell me this was a common complaint in sjogren's patients. Since I have been on Plaquenil this is one symptom that is totally gone. I am really thankful. I hope yours gets better soon.

Hi there, I also get trouble with my feet from time to time. If I change the thickness of socks in my walking (sports shoes) some of my toes really play up grrr...I usually resort to some anti inflammatories!

Cheers, Lesley (NZ)

Missy/Lesley, glad your symptoms are much better with treatment.

Crabcakes,  I love crocs..I wear flip flops way too much and need to change that so I'll look for what you recommended.

Scottie - yeah I know I need to follow up with Rheumy and Neuro. I'll be getting a follow up MRI in another six months for reassurance, even though Neuro said I didn't need to.
