Title: Gastric question
Post by: Kimi on June 18, 2009, 07:05:23 AM
A few years ago when I had my first colonlanopcopy (sp?????) done they took biopsies and found that I had inflammation in both the upper and lower  gut. (got scoped from both the top and the bottom;-) They said I was a risk for Celtic but that I did not actually have it, just a form of inflammation. Is this sort of thing common with SJS?

Celiac is an autoimmune disease and if you have one autoimmune disease you are at risk for others.  In fact, my doctor said you have a tendency to have others.

Hi Kimi  :)

Anna is right. Many people end up with more than one AI disease. It's not inevitable though. Some people do stick to having just the one. AI diseases are very individual things and we are all different.

Take care - Scottie  :)

The strange part is I test negative for Celiac, test negative for SJS too blood wise. But had a positive lip biopsy. I have dry eyes but not as bad as most here so, plus I have a dry mouth but again, not as bad as most here do. I have fibro, thyroid problems (before removal)  and am diabetic also AI things run heavy in my family.

I just think it is strange that I have SJS as I really am not having the normal symptoms, or should I say the severity of them that most have when DX. Maybe I am still in denial? I know the Dr I am seeing is good and an expert on SJS but she is also one who I fear might want to see it in people too?? Really do not know how to explain it. Almost like she relies too much on symptoms only? But then there is the lip thing...... Guess that with symptoms really is enough to DX.

I was thinking the gut inflammation might be another clue to SJS DX? The gut thing came back basically with the same report as the SJS stuff. Inflammation such as seen mainly in Celiac but blood and other tests show neg. So is this just IBS?

Is IBS common with SJS? What can one do for it? I am getting it so bad I am in huge trouble if a bathroom is not with in 50 feet of me when it hits! I am having to take Immodian daily and really do not want to be doing this as it then causes things to plug up! Ugh. Is this all normal for SJS? Or am I just lucky??
