Title: Labs
Post by: TerriJ on June 12, 2009, 07:00:59 PM
Many of you know and understand lab results so much better than I could ever hope to.  So, can you tell me what Selected Antigens are?  Mine were high and also the Hep 2 Cells.  This was along with a high SSA of 448.  Anyway, I'm still trying to learn.  I understand the SSA and SSB are indicative of SS, but what are the other two things?  My rheumatoid factor was also on the highest side of normal.  Does this mean anything?

I found the results from this particular lab difficult to read.  lol

www.labtestsonline.org (http://www.labtestsonline.org)   might be useful.   I'm not good on test results either and also - after I've read up - I don't seem to retain what I've read for long.

Take care - Scottie  :)

As far as I know the Selected Antigens and Hep2 cells are indicators of the type of reactants used in the test done, for example there are two types of ANA tests, one using Hep2 cell identifiers, and the other is the ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) form.

This would probably be sopmething your doctor could clear up better for you, since he would be more familiar with the protocols of the lab he uses.

My ANA positive is all in the SSA at 720 and I have read that SSA is positive in Sjogren's and in people with lupus of the skin.   Lesley

Is having a positive Anti Ro or SSA indicative of any other AI's as well?  Is it common to have a positive SSA or SSB and have RA?

My rheumatologist is always looking at my hands every appt. and asking me if they get still and how long it takes them to loosen up in the morning.  If my rheumatoid factor is at the very highest end of normal would that be why he asks me about this every visit?
