Title: Hot Flashing
Post by: Pisces24 on June 09, 2009, 04:17:38 PM
I've never had a problem with having hot flashes since menopause at age 45. I am age 52 now.
Well the last few days I have had a bunch of hot flashes., especially in the mornings. Whew!
Not sure if it is a Sjogren's flare (diagnosed March 2009) or this durn weather here as it has been cool, rainy and warm  with temps in the 60s. That is the time "stuff" seems to affect me more. I evern have my partroid gland a bit swollen now again.

I'm not running a temp but I've never had sooo many hot flashes. I now have more sympathy for strippers.  :D
Anyone have certain times when the hot flashes get bad?

Hi Pisces  :)

Yes - I have problems with them. I am definitely post menopausal. As I hit menopause, SjS flared and Hashimoto's set in and I couldn't work out what symptoms were what. It was horrible.

The hot flashes eventually subsided somewhat but didn't completely go away. Last autumn they all seemed to flare up again. Turns out the thyroiditis had flared too. With meds adjusted, the flashes died down a bit but have not gone completely. I think it's the 'broken thermostat' that a lot of sjoggies feel. I think it's related to the autonomic nervous system. However - I'm no medic - so I could be completely wrong.

If you have a doc who will listen - tell them about it. maybe you'll get some answers.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I'm with you girls. With SJS, Hashimotos, and Menopause (I started menopause at 28 and had a hystorectomy 7 years ago), I feel as though someone is throwing fireballs at me!! My husband is so sweet tho. He went to Walgreens and bought a plug that plugs into the wall with 2 plugs on it and a remote. So he pluged a fan into it and when the flashes hit, I roll over and touch the remote on my night stand. When It passes, I hit the remote once again to turn the fan off.
What a life saver!

Hi Pisces, the hot flashes started for me in my late 30's or so and continued for better than 10 years...  Then, last winter, they stopped pretty much and I thought that was it.  Nope, the warmer it gets (and the higher humidity), the more I flash.  Dang, does this mess ever end?

Now to try to figure it out, Hashimoto's, SJS, menopause revisiting one more time?  Ugh. ::)

Hi Fairy, awe, your hubby is great!  That is such a neat idea, a fan on a remote!!! :D

Take care -

Patze
