Title: Yeast-Free Diet Anyone?
Post by: eyeamdry on May 31, 2009, 07:00:32 PM
My GP "ran some tests" on me to see if I had a yeast problem.  Well, you might know I did.  He tried to get me on this yeast diet about 20 years ago when he first took over the practice.  I've been dragging my heels, but know I must do it.

Problem is I hate meat and am 95% vegetarian.  So, there isn't much for me to eat.  I complained about foggy-brain this time and that's when he brought out the old yeast-free thing.  I will have to stop my diet Coke, which I live for.  I will start this one day this week.  I must look closely at the things I can have and stock up on them.  Getting protein will be a problem.  I can have eggs, I believe.  Cheese is a staple for me now, but I think that's out.

I'd like any comments from others on their thoughts about this yeast "thing." I have to say that I've not ever taken much antibiotic--and I know this is often the result of that.  Not in my case.   Lucy

Its as far as i read, not enough to just cut out yeast, a sits already overgrown, some other things will still feed it, hence the full candida diet for me.

refined grains will feed it, as will dairy, the sugars occuring naturally in milk do, some suggest no fruit as the fructose will feed yeast overgrowth, others say it wont :-s

You can have eggs, eggs isnt classed as dairy unless you vegan, it doesnt feed the canddia, and veggie omletes are a great meal, you can have cottage cheese, but no ordinary cheese is out im afraid :( yup i miss cheese badly.

Grains that wont feed it are..quinoa, millet, buckwheat and rice, though brown rice is best.

I eat alot of hommus, the greek dip, it had chick peas in it, garlic(which kills the yeast)and sesame paste and lemon juice . I also found in my supermarket wheat/gluten/dairy free crackers are nicer than the rice cakes got a bit fed up with them.

Potatoes are fine, so baked potatoe is good, and i found a brekfast cereal online containing millet/rice/buckwheat
flakes    nuts in it....im taking that with rice milk and it is nice.

Nuts are fine just not peanuts and pistachios theyre sid to harbour yeast, and if your eating fruit they say peel the fruit as it can hold yeast on the skin, grapes and blueberries tend to have alot of yeast on their skins and that helps keeping away from them.

Spirullina is iron and B vitamin rich, i take tablet form of this and its helped to keep my levels up, and a good probiotic formula is recommended to recolonise the bowel with good bacterium.

I will say as they yeast dies off, you ll feel owrse before better, but once that settles, i can honestly say my thick brain fog has gone!!

You can still have your cake and eat it, ive recently bought a fre yeasy/ wheat/dairy and gluten free cookbooks, and found i can bake using stevia, chick pea flour, rice flour, baking powder and yes i add some fruit, and lemon and orange juice fresh squeezed instead of milk  yummy!!

Ive been cooking alot of veggie curries and also found that indian pakora, using gram flour(chickpea flour)  some water, some gram masala and a touch of chilli powder, dipping my part cooked cauliflower in it and deep frying is delicious :D

Mushrooms are out im afraid also, though i love them, theyre fungus and said to be to similar to yeast.

Hope this helps, not an easy one to get head around, but once you have you ll find there are plenty nutritous things to eat, its just a case of rethinking your cooking, which takes time .

if you can handle gluten( i cant)  poridge is a good breakfast and filling, veggie yeast free isnt easy, but the benefits are huge, even my mouth isnt as dry, and my eye drops usage has gone down by half

I am suspecting I might have a problem with yeast. How is the yeast test administered?

From a blood draw.  I'm having a terrible time just thinking about this.  I'm vegetarian and this leaves nothing to eat, but I will be making a trip to a health food store for the few things I can eat.  The sooner I start it, the sooner I will know if it's something for me.  I'm thinking that once you're on the diet for a bit, plus taking the piills the doc gave me, the yeast will be "killed off."  And then I can resume a regular, or nearly regular diet.  Lucy

Yes I can Jonnell. 2 of my kids were allergic to dairy and eggs and a third one could easily have become overweight. They were all put on diets - like no pizzas and no ice cream and no sweets basically. (No candies)

If they're really young they don't notice its a diet.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I have a hard enough time getting her to eat a meal.  But I guess it works for some people,  I was raised like that but I would never take that away from my kids.

I didn't see it as taking anything away. They all grew up with great teeth and the one who looked like she'd get overweight didn't - until she went on the pill and was out of my control by then.

If they ate dairy they got terrible eczema and my youngest daughter used to cry with pains in her legs. I wasn't taking anything away other than discomfort. I was giving them a better quality of life.

Maybe your thinking as you werent allowed these things youd be denying jenna, but if food is making your illness worse then its time to think , for me anyways.

my oldest son has rhinnitis( contant cold) asthma and scalp eczema/proriasis.... last month i took him off dairy and its clearing fast!! i buy him vegan cheese instead and he has begun to get alot better, he even drinks soya/rice milk with me now and enjoys it, he is 13 and at that age its harder , he is off inhalers even the steroid ones he was given, his scalp is clearing and his nose isnt half as bad, he says he feels so much better and wants to continue doing so.

My youngest had had constipation problems for a few years, i recently read in kids this can be a gluten thing, took him off it and his bowels are working so much better, sure he cried and stropped, but hey ho, untreated food intolerances will eventually go into AI issues, im denying them to save them.

They never have had chocolate milk, fizzy drinks are a rare treat, sweets are very limited, diabetes is rife in kids, in UK the numbers have more than doubled in cases, over 10 years, and its predicted that it will double again.

They dont know what a microwave meal is they arent allowed them, or instant noodles or anything that i termed non nutritious rubbish, they eat from a fruit bowel if hungry between meals, eat veggie soups and ive had m,any temper tantrums over the years, my youngest asked for a buiscuit  wait for it 57 times in 5 minutes once, and thrashed around the floor, but they have no cavities, and my friends daughter same age has now lost 6 teeth.
many  E numbers are carcinogenic and being honest i aint feeding my kids poison, i even make my own pizzas so i know what goes in them, always have.

Many of their friends live on sugar, fizzy juice and microwave meals, their attitude now is theyre glad they had a mum who made things from scratch, and both are now either dairy or gluten free, thats not been easy, they take fish oils and a kids multi vitamin, and are way ahead at school, im thinking nutrition had something to do with that.

I dont see it as denying them, i see it as saving their long term health, many of their friends are obese, theyre perfect weight for their frame, and full of energy, its worth a thought honey, its gotten me from illness to almost normal, and daniel the youngest thinks in his own words the gluten free cake is awesome lololol

I agree with you both that if it improves there health its a good thing, but im a little skeptical about all this stuff as far as we can tell Jenna was born with this disease and Her Rhumy hasnt mentioned diet as a factor,  Jenna has had so many problems that taking away the things she enjoys to me is just making her more miserable.  If I had a doctor tell me Jonnell if you changed her diet her sjs would go away that would be a different story.  I dont think that you guys are bad for not giving your children those things I commend you on doing what you feel is best for your children.  And Im not saying Jenna just eats sweets, but she does enjoy her pizza, mac and cheese and a occasional dougnut.  We did take her off the diet sodas, but the chocolate milk is a must that is the only way Ive found to get her plaquinil in her and Ill take the good with the bad on that one.  Your right wednesday My mom was a health food junkie and I was misereable growing up and I dont want to make Jenna endure the same if I can with balance.  I love you guys and I didnt mean to sound demeaning at all, just a personal choice.   Hugs and Kissesss   Jonnell and Jenna

Hi Jonell  :)

I wish I had your faith in doctors!  Nobody ever told me about potential food allergies. Nobody told me about the additives in orange squash. Three out of 4 of my kids are really sensitive to a couple of food additives. If they ate them when they were little they got 'hyper' and bad tempered and one even got violent.

Basically I poisoned the oldest one for 6 years, without realising it. His behaviour was so awful he was referred to a psychiatrist when he was 6. He had blood tests which suggested some kind of big infection in his body. He had x-rays. They couldn't pin anything down. The psychiatrist agreed we had a probvlem as he tried to dig his way through her wall with a screwdriver he'd smuggled in. No one mentioned diet though.

When son number 2 was born 6 weeks later he was an amazingly placid baby. Then he developed colic. His oldest sister had colic so I thought - heck - three more months of h***.  The health visitor suggested he may do better if I ate less dairy. First woman to mention food. Health visitor - not doc. I kept a food diary. (I was feeding him myself) Sure enough - his bouts of misery - ans also eczema - cleared up if I didn't eat dairy - or eggs. It was hard cos I was a vegetarian at the time.
He got old enough for orange squash - and we wondered what had hit us. He turned horrible. We took him off it. He calmed right down again. A little light went on in my head. "What if son number one is horrible because of orange juice"  I thought. Daughter number one isn't obviously allergic to the additives - so the light hadn't dawned quicker.

Took son number one off orange juice. It was still hard to buy the squash without the additives in those days although totally possible now. His behaviour improved tenfold. His father was dubious but on holiday gave him some orange at an aunt's house and within 20 minutes he was kicking heck out of his sister and refusing to do what he was asked by anybody. His Dad was a convert. The additives were to blame.

Now I told my longstanding GP this. He looked at me pityingly and said "Well, Mrs Ross, if that's what you want to believe......." (i.e. he thought I was nuts. I KNOW I'm not.

Oldest son was OK with dairy. Next three weren't. My oldest daughter suffered terribly with the most awful weeping nappy rash (as well as the colic) and had anyone medical suggested to take her off dairy, she would have had a much happier babyhood. Thanks to the health visitor the next two were spared a lot of discomfort.

I'm not saying for one minute that Jonell would get rid of having SjS but you already know there are some things you need to deny her to make her comfortable - strong sunshine being one of them.

I started keping a food diary with my kids and found there were direct correlations between what they ate - and their behaviour. Maybe you could keep a parallel food and symptom diary.

My Dad was a surgeon and managed to misdiagnose appendicitis. I nearly died. Doctors don't know it all - ever.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Very true about doctors,  I had a er doc tell me Jenna had chicken pox when she had a severe allergic reaction to penicillin(it was hives) and 4 2 years I heard that Jenna had growing pains and everything was viral.  None of my kids can handle red food coloring  so I can understand where you are coming from.  But I think my problem is lack of knowledge not understanding what the connection is or where to even start.  The food diary sounds like a good idea I will give it a try.  Can you recommend any reading material or websites about the yeast or dairy connection,  Im not closed minded just a little skeptical I would definetely like to make Jenna happier and  feeling better.  Thanks for the advice love  Jonnell and Jenna

Yes, I've been wheat, gluten, sugar, yeast, dairy, fruit free for approx 4 yrs to keep a handle on candida.  I make my own yeast, wheat, gluten, dairy etc free bread from a packet I buy at Coles supermarket.  Just add water (filtered is all I will drink) & vegetable oil (I use olive oil) whack it in oven.  Also was using pure taheebo which I can't seem to purchase anymore so have commenced Yeast Stat to keep things under control.
Think others have covered things especially Wednesday.  Candida definitely seems to make my mouth & eyes drier.
I always ate healthy, but was still in shock & didn't think I could change to this new diet.  It takes some thinking & discipline to change, but well worth it.  It is easier these days as there is so much this & that free now to cater to people with intolerances & allergies.  Cooking from scratch is best.  With using glyconutrients I'm hoping I will be free of candida in another yr like my friend with FMS who made the suggestion re glyco's to get on top of this illness.
I find I have to remind myself that I still have SS I've improved sooooo much.
It's amazing how your taste buds change.  You can do it!!

I agree with all the healthy eaters, and know that I need to make a change in my diet.  It is the energy it takes to cook healthy meals that keeps me dragging my feet, and I am the only person in my house who cooks.  Just pouring a bowl of cereal for my kids wears me out!  When we get to California I think I will really give it an honest try.

I used to live on chocolate, but now it makes my tongue burn, so that will not be as difficult as it could be.  My sister-in-law will be taking us out to eat mac-n-cheese pizza at their favorite restaurant when we get there, I wonder how nutritious that is?  Gross huh?

All this talk about cheese is making me think about that gorgonzola cheese spread in my fridge, that goes so well with dried cherries and pecans....mmm.

I feel the same way, when i started the diet, i was shattered trying to cook,, was a drag, coz i felt so fatigued i just felt it was like an uphill struggle, and like you im only person who cooks, my partner would cook, but he could burn water.

Its not so much for me that pizza and mac cheese wasnt healthy, if i eat all that gluten, wheat and cheese in one meal, im fatigued, sleep for 3 hours there and then, and bloated, to point even my ankles swell, once i went on the candida diet, the all over swelling i was told was fibromyalgia disappeared, my stomach within weeks went down inches i had been that swollen.

Glad you said chocolate makes your toungue burn, i noticed since cutting it al out, i did an experiment on myself, i went out with my family to a big pizza chain, my throat went sore and dry, my mouth burned, saliva went again, and came home and passed out for 3 hours again.

I hear you that your just feeling too weak to cook any different, but once  i cut it all out  , my energy came back and my enthusiasm for cooking did too, its a horrible time pushing past that fatigue to get to that stage, but for me if was really worth it :)

I fully understand that skepticism, my doctors laughed at my theories, my bowens therapist who encouraged me didnt  as her daughter with chrones had achieved so much by doing it, my rheumy smiled as much as to say  bless if it keeps you happy, and my occupational health consultant actually did laugh !!

he aint laughing now im back at work, infact he perked up and wanted more information from me , i reconn of i had waitied on a doctor saying change your diet it will help, id still be sat here fatigued and in incredible pain, and my job would be lost.

The diet sounds really hard, and yes it takes alot to get your head round the can have and cant have list, but so worth it for me anyways. The book how to beat candida   by erica white was the best read i invested in, and reading juicing recipies helped me get about  7 portions of vegetables into me per day, days i felt too drained to cook them all.
Even my kids will drink vegetable juice now, always had to purree soups for them if they seen a big chunk of veg it put them off, dont know why but it did.

I fully understand your mum was OTT , and it makes you feel youd be depriving jenna, i really do, i hate to make the same mistakes as my mum did, and really do hear you when you say you dont want to do that to her.

Everyone at work keeps saying the die tmust be so hard, must drive me mad, and my answer is the pain and fatigue, post nasal drip, brain fog, etc was alot worse to live with as the diet is, sur ei miss crisps, sweets, chesse ( really miss cheese) ...but i dont miss being unable to function without wanting to curl up and sleep forever , pain everywhere, pain i cant even describe, and i dont miss the thought of taking drugs either.

Your right to be skeptical, being honest i was, for a few months i just didnt want to know about the diet, then i thought is giv emysel;f a 6 week trial, if i felt no better id pack it in, by end of 6 weeks i was walking miles again and doing things i hadnt been able to, 3 months into it i went back to work.

My oldest euan was a big lover of dairy and daniel loved his gluten, we crave most what makes us unwell, ive gotten round that by buying gluten free buiscuits, vegan cheese and soya yogurts for them, researched where i could get it, as im in a small town some of it i have to get online, euan had terrible colic was was intrested to read that St`s kids that were dairy intolerant/allergic had the colic issue, i only wish my HV had put me onto it then, 7 months of screaming in pain colic and other symptoms since could have been avoided:(

There are so many websites with details of the candida diet, but most have adverts on it, so i cant post them, google it read through it for a few days, see what you think, depression is also linked with wheat/gluten intolerances sometimes, i read one article saying women who are are more rpone to post natal depression, strangely i had that twice over and quite severley .

Your not a bad mothe rin any way shape of form, you care deeply about your daughter and her health thats more than obvious, skeptical is good, i was, and this whole expereince has changed my mind , and now helping my kids, my mother suffers depression and now recently bowel issues, and is asking me about gluten, she wants to cut it out, no one was more skeptical about it all than her when i went onto diet, she said it was all part of denial with me, and i was being silly thinking it would help, 4 months later, she is  taking my books to read, and asking what she has to cut out!!

Hope any of this helps, wish you the level best with it all

*hug*

I know you are right T x, I know.  The pizza is actually Mac n cheese pizza, yes, really, and it is very popular.  Can you believe that?  I need to try it once though.  My sister in law sent me a picture of it, and I just uploaded it to my flickr page.

You can see it here if you like  http://www.flickr.com/photos/adikari/.

We will not be settled in Ca. for another 6 weeks or so, but I am really looking forward to eating healthy.  My kids really like when I cook, and would choose my cooking over fast food anytime, so I am really lucky for that.

Did you ever drink coffee?  That is making my tongue do the same thing as chocolate.  I just bought some green tea and am making the switch to that now.

Have a great day!

lololololol@mac n cheese pizza,  before i knew about all this i would have liekd that, i cant say anything a new popular pizza topping here is haggis!! lololol

yeah im lucky too my kids prefer home cooking to take aways etc, and luckily my oldest thinks the soya milk i buy him is creamy and he likes it, he likes the soya yogurts, and the cheese he says isnt quite as nice as real chesse, but he likes it, i found a website that does gluten/dairy and sugar free buiscuits online for kids in shape of bunnies and gnomes, daniel said he likes them , bit more expensive, but his swollen tummy is so much better, and bowels moving really well , i told him it was special buiscuits for a special boy aand he seems really happy about that  PHEW!!

I was a BIG coffee drinker, a good 5 cups a day, used it to give me energy for working night duties on an elderly ward, sure it does do that, but when that boost goes, you hit a slump and need more coffee... dont know if that was afecting my mouth, cut that out 4 months ago, and ordinary tea, as it irritates the gut whilst your trying to heal it, i drink herbal, green or white tea, apparently according to new reports white tea has even more anti oxidants in it, and very low caffiene levels, but many here get relief from their dry mouth drinking alot of green tea .

I drink 2 litres of spring water a day, and a few cups of green tea or white tea, and one cup of a morning detox tea, i dont drink anything else, at first the cravings for sugar, caffiene and all the other things i can thave were really bad, any research i did, said that taking a supplement chromium picolate for the first 6 weeks, helps to balance the blood sugar and help with cravings, one i took that in the morning it really did help.

Good luck with the move, moving house myself next week, so im packing and clearing too, which will make my diet harder whilst doing so, but ive got quite a few meals made up in the freezer to help with that, and i omelettes    should get me through the busy stage.

Good luck with it all, hoping it all goes as smoothly as possible for you

I do , i buy child omega  oils in a child dose, get it from local chemist here, dont know the dosage you can give up to in children ;-s, i just buy the one designed for kids, so im thinking that must be fine, i also give them a multi vitamin complex i buy from the large chain store chemist in the UK, its designed for age 3 upwards, id speak to my local pharmasist about doses she can and cant have, if your unsure, they know alot more about paediatric doses than i do,i just ones i buy are strawberry flavoured, so they seem to really like it, but have no E numbers, so id say ask pharmacist and see if you chemists there do a childrens capsule

hope that helps

I would think for us who suffer so much...anything is worth a try! If someone told me i was going to live the rest of my life like this and possibly worse i would have stopped eating whatever the culprit could be and if i had a 4 year old with Sjs i would do everything in my power to change whatever it takes to try and make her well. It is not a diet, it is a way to a healthier life. Please, you don't want her to end up like a lot of us, it's not fun at all! She has so much to look forward to in life! Why not try to make her healthier...All 3 of my boys were dairy and egg intolerant. So i had to change their diets and it was never a problem. I think it's all how you lead them to be healthier. Make it fun and discover together what you can create that is tasty but much healthier! :)

Okay Ladies, So My Diet yesterday.....

Goldengrahams Smores with milk for breakfast.

Lunch - Chicken tetraziny, followed by my sonic hot fudge sundae

Dinner - sonic $1 menu hamburger, and did any one else get their free root beer float at the sonic yesterday ? Oh that was good.  :)

Oh yeah ... my afternoon snack ..... more golden graham Smores and milk.  :)

Today.... Breakfast, you guessed it ..... on the way to work, I gobbled down my golden graham smores with my to go milk.

For Lunch.... sonic onion rings, followed by my hot fudge sundae.

Dinner... I am thinking

I don't mean to plug sonic or anything like that. I don't own stock or anything like that.

;D  It just seems to jump into my path a lot. Recently the sweet little car hop girl said " you do this everyday, don't you?" I laughed and said, in my defense,  "only on my work days , and thats 2 days a week." (its across the hwy from my work)

So can any one tell me how I am doing on the gluten free/yeast free diet.   :)

I'm with Janna.... may as well shoot me  :)

But I do read all these healthy things, think, and pounder, meditate a little.

Leisla,  Its just not that easy, when you have a child that is used to eating a certain way,  you cant just stop everything.  And their is no medical evidence that any of this would even work,  I have nothing against the people who chose to eat healthy or make their kids eat that way.  I hope that you werent trying to say Im a bad mother because I just dont stop and change her eating certain things, as anyone who knows me from this site knows that i am my daughters biggest advocate and would do anything to make her feel better.  I would give my life to make her free from this disease and be healthy.  But yeast free, gluten free, sugar free, is not a thing you can just do overnite especially with a 4 year old little girl who enjoys her pizza and chocolate milk.

hi,

new here, so maybe there will be some patient understanding if I say things that have been said before, or ruled out. have been celiac/gluten free diagnosed for about 5 years.  seems to me there was a lot about yeast/candida on the celiac list serv site.  try a google on celiacs and look for St. John's list, among others, celiac.com, etc.  there is usually a search window that should help with archives.  or just post a cautious note.  you will get lots of responses on the st. john's list. posters keep track of them and summarize for the list.  so it is a process.  you may want to start out reading the emails (oh, that's the other thing unique to the list -- you get daily emails as a member of the list if you join. you just sort thru/ delete what you are not interested in/ answer reply to the person you feel to/ read the summaries. very interesting, but very different from this forum.)

seems to me there is something about restoring balance to the tract using probiotics and something else.  also, that dairy reactions are sometimes due to damage from antibodies erroneously produced when gluten is in the diet.  so...when gluten is out, and time and probiotics help the tissue heal and restore, then dairy is 'processed' in a friendlier way.  same for fruits  -- all depends where the damage is.  see enterolab.com or celiac.com for the Dr. Fine (baylor univ texas) article on villa.   but that was mostly with lactose intolerance symptoms.

some neuro reactions come from protein strings getting into the blood stream from tract damage -  crossing what is called the blood/brain barrier.

You have all done some great things, reading your children so well and responding to their needs. Great going, gals.  :)

bye for now,

laney

Hey gang,

Here  is my food diaries up date....

Dinner at taco bell, ........ I drank water there, thats the healthy part.

Desert......

My husband and I have been indulging milk shakes at .......... drum roll......Sam's,  Cheap and very chocolaty.

Much to my disappointment they had installed a pump on the hershey container,(they usually dump it in, and the result is great) I alerted my husband to the new pump and he said, the fun is over. Like it matters to him, he always gets a berry shake. I watched as they pumped and it was good.  :D

Now the really, really healthy news is,all this was after my husband and I walked our fur baby Elroy , TWO miles  :)

Now if y'all are thinking ......she does not cook.

The golden graham smores are made with my own two hands . Yep, they are home made.

:)  I might need a support group to help me with my care/free diet habits  :)...... seriously   ;)

Thanks for those links, far as i read, candida buils up from the dysbyosis of the bowel, IE  too much bad bacterium not ebnough good, gluten then irritates the bowel wall, and causes intolerances as you say due to damaged villi that absorb the nutrient sin the bowel, this also causes an inability to absorb as many nutrients from our diet as we should do, the bowel then inflammes, and what occurs is what is known as leaky gut.

Once the gut leaks indeed protiens ans molecules start flying around our systems, the immune system recognises it as a forgein body and attacks, and flares up in attacking us too, the protiens can indeed pass through the blood brain barrier leading to neurological symptoms.

healing the leaky cut many AI sufferers feel better, indeed the MS advice site discussed leaky gut and their reseach is that all AI suffers who have took steps to heal their leaky gut feel much less ill and expereince much less symptoms.

I dont rule out that many AI sufferer have allergy/intolerance to enviromnetal pollutants and chemical senitivites, but it has been noted by decreasing our allergen overload even those can improve.

Kimbo      Im not advocating everyone should do this, its not easy, as Jonnell says were used to eating a certain way, i know i feel somedays like a junkie battling addiction, but i have seen so many improvment sin my health, and at 37   if i hadnt been able to run about with my kids, go back to work, live in constant terrible pain, remeber fibromyalgia makes us register pain 3 fold , so truly i was being crippled in pain, id rather have been shot, at one point i cried and said to my partner, if this is the life i have to look forward to id rather not be here, hence i got myself anti depressant medication.

I had a choice, giv eit a try or die that way, well i wanted to live as full and healthy a life as i possibly could, has it been easy ?? heck no, hardest thing i have ever had to do, my addiction to gluten, sugar and yeasty products was greater than i had thought, but i see results and i have such a passion for life and laughing that it seemed to me a no brainer.

Today i have 36 less symptoms, have very little fatigue, very little pain, wetter eyes and mouth, my sense of fun of back, my kids health is much improved, and were all happier, i always did cook alot, i admit is is a hobby of mines, but i didnt realise how much damage it was doing to me to eat so much cheese, dairy and gluten, now i know it does, for if i venture off this die tplan, my stomach swells, my mouth dries and my head pounds, thats almost instant, my mood drops within hour, and my anxiety levels shoot up, next day my athralgia and myalgia is back and my joints seize, and the fatigue is overwhelming again, its just not worth it for me.

I want to live, see my grankids if i ever have any, see my boys grow up, but thats my decision, i dont expect others do do what myself and others have done, my taste buds have now changed, i taste sweetness in natural things, i enjoy my diet and living almost normally again, i enjoy working again, i enjoy having enegry and vitality, i enjoy seing my hair grow back, and being able to dance round the livingroom and touch my toes again, im 37 i feel 37, i used to feel 77, ive nursed elderly patinets who were more capable than me at the height of this disease, sure convention aint cottoned onto it that much as yet, but there is research out there by conventional doctors who back all this up, just possibly they know how few of their patients would actually be willing to bite the bullet and do it, rather than want a magic pill.

If the leaky gut theory is correct, it would explain why Ai issues run in packs, the longer the offending items are ingested the more damage it does, the more ill we become, auto imunity suggests that our immune systems just go haywire on their own accord, maybe just maybe they go haywire due to our inability to deal with cetrain food items, candida, environmental pullutants, chemicals in our daily lives, maybe were just sensitive to that, and our immune ssytesm dont like it in the least, i for one want to live, its a choice, if its between healthy eating against planequil , immuno suppressants and daily liver toxic medication, i ll juice my way through life.

Having always, it seems, to be the exception to the rule, I've never had issues with yeast, and while I was DX with inflammatory bowel at one point, it turned out to be more of a generalized inflammation from my Sarcoidosis, and any bowel issues I had (many years ago) were purely mechanical. According to my GI and the lab, I have a completely healthy gut! (nice, it seems to be the only part of me that is)

I still advocate a healthy, balanced, natural diet, and if any particular food group causes you problems, avoid it! Possibly because I've not been one to eat refined or processed foods, prefer complex carbs, and love cinnamon and green tea, I've not had the problems you've all battled. Still I have the various Autoimmune diseases, and remain firmly convinced that there are many triggers. I've been involved in separate studies for Sarcoidosis, one of which tried to prove a genetic or familiar cause, the other focused on environmental triggers, and, according to the doctors who ran them, I proved both their criteria! Maybe I have both triggers, maybe for me it's something else entirely (possibly the fact that I've had both Rheumatic fever and Mononucleosis quite severely).

One thing is definite about AIs, each of us has our own path, but it's so nice to know that overall, we all travel together!

Linda

exaclty, could be chemicals in the household ,i watched an oprah show once was takling about the cheimcals in carpet pile making some ppl ill, could even be industrail emmisions for a local factory, or any number of things that sets anyone off, for my (thank the gods) it seems to be canddia and things im intollerant/allergic to, and now it seems my sons have some of these from me also, i tried it skeptically, and it worked, for that im grateful, deeply so.

But yes there could be emmisions from cars setting someone off, and not much they can do about that, or just climatic changes, could be that the sky is blue, who knows, and your right it wont work for every person, i just wanted to rule it out for me, and in rulling it out i ruled it in.  There are so many things in the air we breath, local rivers being industrially polluted, who knows, stange as an environmental activist before the kids, and i kind of arm chair activist now, to think that these things may be damaging health in me lol.

Hence my deep worry and portesitng agains genetically modified foods etc, we cant know one theyre unleahed into the food chain, that cross pollentation wont pernamanetly affect the food chain, and we shall see alot more AI in the future, shudder to think, there could be so many triggers to AI, but i just planned on working my way through them till i hopefully happened on something that got me some quality of life back, as i am so green in my ways, hair sprays, chemicals in soaps etc, was always an issue for me, why i use all natural , even make my own, who knows what anyones trigger is, but i do think there is some kind of trigger, and it can run in families the sensitivity to that,be genectic,  but it could be anything, and something we cannot do much about, like environmental triggers :(

Title: Chilling Email Tonight
Post by: eyeamdry on June 05, 2009, 09:06:24 PM

Well, smart mouth I am.........I had an email forwarded to me from my daughter tonight.  It was sent to her by her best friend from elementary/high school days, more than 20 years ago.  The friend did not know my email address.  Apparently there has been some discussion via email about my Sjogrens.

The email from Kris, who now lives in Dallas, detailed her long addiction to Diet Coke and that she has no tears or saliva and some other Sjogren's like stuff.  Her dr told her to quit Diet Coke because of bladder problems..  Well, she did and claims she is much better and was better after 3 or 4 days without Diet Coke--and/or anything with aspartame in it.

I sort of believe her experience because she is someone I know.  I'm 50-50 on the decision.  But, if there's a chance in h--l I'm going to do it.  I live on Diet Coke and have for decades  I'll be able to try my yeast free diet and Diet Coke withdrawal all at once.  I realize that with the yeast-free diet, I'd have to cut out the cola anyhow.  My huband and daughter are worried about me greatly.  My husband was with me in the office of my GP when he told me to quit Diet Coke.  And, I haven't.  I can at least do that for him, after all he does for me.  WATER.  WATER.  I'll have to maybe try some soda water, or tonic water.  I don't think it has any sweetner or sugar in it.  I can drink green tea on my yeast-free diet and I don't put sugar or sweetner in my tea anyhow.  Brew up some iced green tea.  Uh.  I will report back on my experience with this.  The Diet Coke thing could be big on me, if it's based on consumption.  lol. Lucy, I have always felt that those diet pops or other foods would kill you faster than the average stuff. There is so much written out there about it. All I know is it gives me a stomach ache when I drink the diet pop and sometimes a headache. I figure I'll just drink my regular pop cause at least I know what is in it.

I know that I need to get on a diet of some kind to lost about 20 pounds but I am having a hard time getting motivated. I have a lot of food aversions since I have been way laid with this stuff. Unfortunately the ice cream and junky stuff go better than the good stuff lately.

Oh well, Lucy, another day is coming. I did it before and I will do it again. Irish ;D

Eyeam

I hear you i lived for caffiene and diet irn bru( scottish national soda drink) , hated drinking water, never did drink much of it, can honestly say the first few weeks werent nice, how i craved it badly, now id not put anything but spring or filtered water or herbal tea in my mouth, it really is amazing how quickly your taste buds will change, i had to give up diet coke a while ago, had a peptic ulcer, wasnt H pylori as i had the test for that, my GP said go through your diet and real;y gave me a hard time about coke, he said no one should ingest anything that can clean jewllery, he told me to go home and pop my rings into a glas of it, i did, they came up sparlking lol.

Yup aspartame and the likes feeds the candida overgrowth from that ive read, and caffiene irritates the gut,  i know my mum gave up caffiene as she had bladder leaking and urgency incontinenece, when she did it stopped.

Xyitol and stevia are natural sweetners and dont affect candida, do now and then i make up some homebaking with that and gluten free flours.

I know i read jenna posting she felt alot better for giving fizzy soda drinks up, i think tonic water has some stuff in it, cant remember , id read the label on that.

I know whating an aussie weight loss challenge programme down siz eme that airs here, ive gotten alot of good tips, they say warm water with lemon slice sin first thing in the morning goes straight to the bowel and cleanses it, i drink that in the morning now, must say i do feel good after it.

Good luck with giving it all up, not easy

Lucy,

I feel for you.  My md is holistic.  She has been trying to get me to try a yeast free diet for several years now.  Met with an herbalist here in town and she told me to do the diet!  It's too hard is what I decided.

So, I'm taking it step by step.  Last week - No sodas.  Had headaches - very grumpy.  This coming week, I'm doing yeast free for breakfast only.  It will take me a lot longer to get through it, but it doesn't seem so big this way.

I'm trying to wrap my head around no cheese.  Miss it already!   I read in "The Dry Eye Rememdy" that dairy is inflammatory.  So, I'm going to try no dairy--- maybe next week!

Christy :)

Quick Question... I can't not eat soy - allergic.   do you know if there are other types of cheese, milk, etc?

Danzgirl, there are coconut, potato, oat, nut and rice milks available, but as far as I know, they aren't processed into any form of cheese. The only cheeses I can think of, other than soy, are dairy. There is a brand that doesn't contain tofu, but has soya concentrate. It's a product from the UK, and may not be available in the US, but it's a lovely line of vegan cheeses called Sheese. http://www.buteisland.com/index.htm

Lucy,
Just a little suggestion here.  I've been on the gluten free diet now for almost 2 yrs.  I never drink sodas, only because they burn my mouth so bad.  I do however drink the EAS protein drinks for breakfast.  I have NEVER been able to eat breakfast.

I fed my hubby and children breakfast, but I couldn't eat it myself.  (probably because I was a "latch key" kid from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. My mother never had time to make me breakfast or was even home when I got up for school)

I love the chocolate fudge protein drink and it gets me going in the morning.

I hope you can get yourself going and start on this diet.  Let us know how you get on with it.

Hugs, Pooh

Well, we ended up going out to supper tonight with friends and over to visit them at their new trailer at the campsite.  So, I wasn't yeast-free.......and I did have some Diet C.  I had one can this a.m. and am sqigging on a bottle now.  That's less than half my regular bunch.  I'm serious about this, but it may be gradual, and on my terms.

The meat-free thing is bad as I hate meat and that's all you can eat.  And cheese, I love it.  I did buy some soy milk for my cereal puffed wheat.  I bought some tofu also.  This will be a work in progress.  I also am supposed to take 2 kinds of pills along with this.  One is to kill yeast and the other promote the good stuff.  Having a senior moment right now.  Lucy

I have found the rice milk to be more palatable. I think that soy and tofu are so rich and upset my stomach. If you get the rice milk really cold it is good on cold cereal.

Also, don't forget the cheese that is made from goat milk. That should be a good cheese as it can be eaten by sensitive, allergic persons.

I cut out the red meats about 15 years ago and ate a very weird low fat diet. Lost 40 pounds. I also ate a lot of pasta and stir fry that was made very low cal and only with white meat. I got so I craved and pasta and didn't really miss the red meat that much. Ate a lot of salsa and raw, red peppers.(not the hot ones) I keep trying to get in the mood for that diet and am just not motivated. I ate salsa on baked potatoes with cottage cheese. Lots of pop corn for snacking. I need the chewing!!! Irish ;D

Danz girl

Linda is right, but oats contain gluten, so if your gluten free is stay away from it, rice milk is nice i like that.

There are vegan totally non dairy chesses out there, so if your problem is just dairy thats an idea.but they seem to have  sugar and alot of additives in them, they didnt seem to be that healthy looking for the canddia diet.

I did buy my son lactofree  range of lactose free cheeses and milks available here, that have been made with live good bacterium, that live in the lactose, therefore the end products is lactose free, so since my reading and understanding of the candida diet, is the lactose is a milk sugar that feeds candida, and this range is free of it, likely be fine, unless you are dairy intolerant full stop, have to say my post nasal drip disappeared when i cut out dairy.I did try a piece, it was just as nice as real cheese, so if its just a lactose intolerance, thats the way to go, if you can get it in the US, but as i think dairy altogether isnt a good idea for me, ill stay away from it as yet

When I was younger, I tried every goofy "health diet" known to man, thinking it would help my stomach problems and general health.  The only thing that worked for me ways  good old fashion prescription drugs and I'm really glad, because I love dead cow and pig, nothing against yard birds or fish.  In-fact the only thing I have to be careful about eating is to many vegetables, seems that I don't digest them well.

Isn't the beauty on being on top of the food chain the ability to eat all the other creatures, I mean bunnies eat vegetation and my dog and cats eat them.  Nothing beats spare ribs roasted all day over a hickory fire and slathered in Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce.  Then I wash it all down with an ice cold glass of whole mike, 2% and skim milk are for sissies and real men don't drink soy or rice milk, milk come from cows and goats, not soy beans.  Now you Canadians know that Crown Royal is about as close to mothers milk as one can get and if it's not available in heaven, I refuse to go!  The only thing I don't like about Canada is your bacon, too lean, bacon is just no good unless it has lots artery clogging fat, back bacon just won't do.  Oh don't foreget the butter on the fresh croissants right out of the oven and some ice cream or Galatea for desert.

I'm sure that in my life time the medical community will endorse my life style, it seem that they change their minds about what is good for you to eat every couple of years.

People died at an early age in the 1500 because they lacked the medical knowledge that we have today.  It is unbelievable how many died during child birth, mother and child or from syphilis, dysentery and pneumonia.  I believe that genetics has more to due with longevity than any other factor.  Doctors can keep people alive for ever, if quality of life isn't important.

That's not to say that over indulgence and exposures to toxins in the work environment can't have a negitive effect on ones general health or length of life.

lol, actually, the part about the vegetables is not so wrong.  A friend researched the effects of high nitrates (found in veggies, the fresher, the more, as I understand it.)
She found she calmed her DH (dermatitus hepiforus) a celiac-related symptom, by eliminating nitrates whereever she could. Found them in 'sensitive' toothpastes as well. It explained why I finally realized that every late summer when friends gave lots of their gardens' bountys, I had yeast reaction symptoms.

Hard to believe, but then, doesn't that make some of us feel better?

Did anyone see 'House' this week? A rerun, no doubt. About the gal with ever-increasing neuro symptoms. She was a diet/weight loss/ excercise guru. It lands up she had a rare condition that required higher carbs and subsequent weight gain to be healthy and/or drug therapy. I should look up the episode. There is probably a website. Just to catch the name of the condition again.

I've got to pray for wisdom. There is no good guessing. Each has to do what's right for them.  The tough part is knowing what that is. lol :)

Lucy

Lucy - how is the diet going?  I cheated really bad - for a whole week.  Starting again next week.  Good luck!

Well I'm just to glad to hear you are cutting out diet coke! it is nothing but chemical laden  poison. I was terribly addicted to diet pepsi,( I STILL crave it after several years, it must have crack as an ingredient!) and I  wonder what all those artificial sweeteners did to contribute to the flare that brought me down 4 years ago.
