Title: I'm back (Kathy)
Post by: Katybarstool on May 21, 2009, 07:59:19 AM
Hello my lovely friends

Went into the hospital at noon on Monday and had the surgery 7 pm. My asthma played up a bit in recovery, but apart from some pain and discomfort the first 24 hours, I'm ok. I was discharged on Tuesday, without seeing the consultant, and am due to see him in four weeks.

As far as I know, the recotcele and prolapse were dealt with, and the botox injection done. I'm just feeling very weak and tired now, but ok. I see the Gp tomorrow, and am hoping to be signed off work for a couple of weeks.

Hugs to everyone.

Dearest Kathy

Thank you so much for posting so quickly and letting us know how you are.  You just knew we were worried about you, didn't you?!  You were in my thoughts all day on Monday and I hope the asthma flare in recovery wasn't too scary.  I had a wobble in recovery after my accident but luckily enough I only remember the final part of it!  There just seemed to be lots of people there and then they all disappeared.  Does that sound familiar?

Please ensure that you're signed off work for at least a fortnight.  Apart from the surgery itself, you'll need lots of time to recover from the anaesthetic.  I think it takes weeks for the anaesthetic to leave the system and you don't want any more 'brain fog' than you already have!

Rest, rest, rest.  Hope you've got lots of treats lined up.

Thinking of you - Chickpea

Hi Kathy  :)

I'm glad things went to plan and that you're not in too much pain now. I'm not surprised you're feeling weak and tired. Operations take it out of us and worrying about it before the event does too.

I hope you get signed off for at least 2 weeks - or even until you see the specialist again. That would be better.

Rest up and let yourself heal.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Kathy,

So good to hear that all went well and that you are home healing. Take good care of yourself and don't over do (yeah I know.....that's much easier said than done)!

Sending you lots of hugs and positive wishes for continued healing.

Hello my lovely friends

Thank you for your kind messages. The brain in awol, just now - either that or the SJS is flaring. Anyway, I went to see the GP today. He gave me antibiotics for my chest, and a note for 4 weeks off work. I'm hoping not to need that long, but that takes the pressure off a bit, even though I will lose some pay.

You know, any medical/surgical procedure elated to the nether regions makes you the 'butt' of people's jokes.Even the GP couldn't resist asking if I was 'sitting comfortably'  ::) I know what my mum felt like when she broke her leg and people asked if she was going to the 'hop' :)

I have been a complete slob - watching daytime tv and reading.  My beloved little terrier, Jaffa, quite likes having me home. We are like two seniors, snoozing, eating and being lazy. I think I could get used to this lazy life!

Have a good weekend - there is a rumour that we are going to see the sun in the UK, even though it's a public holiday and usually pours with rain. I hope the sun does come, I need some solar power!

Kathy,

My mother was a nurse on the Colon and Rectal Surgery Ward during my childhood.  Even the nurses got teased... as they were called the "Guts and Butts Girls."

Must be human nature to find this so funny!...there's just no "end" to the silly things one can think of!

I hope your "end" is on the mend!

Love you dearly!

Hi Kathy,

I know late as usual! ;) :D  But I'm sure glad to hear that you're doing well!  Now I can uncross those fingers, well, maybe - I think they're "frozen" in place today!

It's good to hear that your GP is really working with you to help you with the healing, lucky you!

Take care of yourself lady -

Hi Kathy

Just wondering how you are today?  Hope you had a restful weekend - did the family visit and cosset you?

It's a grey, rainy day here in Brighton; if it's the same up in Yorkshire you won't have a chance of getting a sunburned behind!

Hi Chickpea

Lovely to hear from you. TBH had a couple of not too good days.  Delicate drom the surgery and been feeling fragile with flu-like symptoms. I suppose that  could be the SJS. The brain fog is back - this morning I double-dosed on paracetamol, so I'm trying to stay out of mischief now by resting.

How's your new treatment going?

Hugs

Hi sweetie

Sorry to hear you've had a couple of tough days.  Hope the extra paracetamol helped make things better!  Sounds like you need to rest, rest, rest ...

I've managed to delay starting the new treatment until early July thanks to a very understanding doctor.  He realises that spending time with my children in June when they'll all be home is the best medicine for me.

Take good care of your dear self - Chickpea

Kathy, glad to hear that you got through it well..and that you have been so good after it, tho after reading your last thread, I do hope that you do not have a flare up starting..

I had that op 6 years ago and got over it really well..

However sad to say that I have developed another prolapse, but am putting off seeing the Doctor , as at the mo' it is not causing much bother..and at 73 I do not relish having any more op's unless it is absolutely necessary!

Enjoy your me - time dear Kathy, get spoilt for a time and get back to normal soon..
                                                                                                                Welcome home, Dolly x

Dolly

Thank you for your message. I agree with you, unless prolapses cause problems, they are best left alone. I'm a little younger than you, at 52, but had no alternative to the surgery. I'm taking your advice and resting - I can't afford to risk any more prolapses. I will keep my fingers crossed that you can manage without any intervention in the future.

Kathy,

Hoping today was a good day for you.   ;D  The best prescription a doctor can prescribe . . . rest, rest, rest!!  If you don't want to get dressed . . . . don't . . . .  lounge around in your pj's, read a book, watch tv and snuggle with your doggie.   ;D

Have a speedy recovery.

Take care,
Bucky

Hi Kathy,
So sorry to hear you have been hurting.  I'm glad to hear that you are recovering and other than a possible visit from SJS you are doing well.

Enjoy your time off and spoil yourself.  Within reason, do something you haven't had time for in the past.  But take care and don't overdo it.

Hugs, Pooh

So, the hospital said I could drive at 14 days post op, so long as I could do an emergency stop. I started the car in the garage, reversed it up the drive and crunched it into the skip my son is using for his building rubble ... and yes, I did an emergency stop ok, but it looks like it could be a very expensive one >:(

My first trip after the bump was to the grocers to pick up a few things for mum, and then down to visit her. I stayed about an hour, and came home absolutely shattered. My undercarriage has been really sore since, so I think the driving will have to be put back on hold for a few days.

Anyway, mum was pleased to see me, so I guess that makes the trip (and the bump) worthwhile.

I'm sorry for the crunch, Kathy dear!

Last year I ran into things with the car almost once a week!

I really think the whole surgical process does a number on the brain too!

Hugs and sympathy!

Kathy dear, you take care of yourself. :(  Those bumps can do a number on healthy people, let alone those that just had surgery.

I do hope you feel better soon and your journeys become more comfortable next time you go out.

(sorry for the hi-jacking on your thread -  :))

You are welcome to hijack my thread anytime :)

Today I had a walk to the newsagents. It took about 20 minutes round trip, which isn't that far, but I felt I achieved something.

Hi Kathy

Well that's one way to check out your ability to do an emergency stop!  Hope the skip was ok ...

Do take things slowly.  Surgery plus anaesthetic plus SjS is a recipe for deep exhaustion.  You need time to heal and readjust.  Dear friend, take care of yourself.

Oh Kathy,

So sorry  :(.

Glad you saw your mum, though.

Please try to stay safe and don't push your limits, it won't be long and your body will give you permission get out and boogie.

Hi Lynmarie

Yes, it is easy to overdo things - and I think I did yesterday. Today I have had to rest, and for the first time in more than a week, I've had to sleep during the day. Like with the SJS, when I have a really good day, I think I'm invincible, but I just end up with sore 'plumbing' the following day, so it's not worth it.

This weekend I will rest!!!!
