Title: Eating in public
Post by: DesignerS on May 06, 2009, 07:37:07 AM
Hi everyone,
Just a personal question.  Since most of our mouths are so dry, does anyone have suggestions about eating in restaurants?  I like to stay away from them but need to go to dinner with my soon to be in-laws.  It is so embarrassing because food sticks to the teeth so bad.  Ugggh!

When I eat in public, I make sure to have lots of water at hand, and I order things like soups, or foods with sauces or gravy. Small bites washed down by liquid seem to work best for me.

Agreed.  I always go for the wetter option on a menu!

I know what you mean Designer.  I order a BIG glass of water - and they usually have to refill it several times.  I've found that I have to stay away from cottage cheese (which I love) when I'm out eating or else I have these little white curds sticking to my teeth . . . not a pretty sight!  LOL  ;D  I've resorted to looking at my son or hubby and smiling and asking "is anything sticking to my teeth?".   We've got to do what we've got to do!    ::)

I agree with the others, the "wetter", saucier or liquidity the better.

Enjoy your dinner.  You can always excuse yourself after eating to go to the ladies room and check everything.   ;)

I have to agree - Lots of water.  I rate my restaurant experiences as to whether the server refills my glass of water before I am sucking air.  Roxanne

I agree with what the others have said and I also kind of inconspicously swirl water around my teeth and run my tongue over my teeth.  It may not be as insconspicous as I think :)

I go with Linda on this..

I have to eat so slowly too ,that everyone else is finished long before me, I usually tell a little white lie that I either have a mouth ulcer or denture problem..

I flee to the ladiies straight after the meal, to rinse and check my mouth ... Pain.. ain't it?    Dolly

You guys are too funny!  :D  I knew this was kind of an embarrassing question.  I thank each one of you for your ideas, and you all make me feel good knowing I am not alone on this one.  The funny thing is that I had to see my ENT this morning.  As we were talking about SS, he said, well why don't I just do a lip biopsy right now.  Its no big deal, just a few stitches.  Due to pride, I almost took him up on it so I would have an "excuse" to not eat very much at dinner. LOL  Yes, what a pain  ::)

Agree!

Lots of water and/or Diet Pepsi (my downfall) to drink....and nothing really dry to eat! I think Linda hit it right on the head!
