hi there
after numerous problems with my rheumie i would really like to seek a second opinion and advice on some health issues have have been having. I heard there is a good one at guys hospital but dont seem to be able to get anywhere when i ring them. Does anyone know of any or any specialist clinics? I am just outside london but i would be willing to travel pretty much anywhere in the UK for an expert. hope anyway can help!!!!!

i beeleive there is a sjogrens specilaist unit in london, im sure harrigan went to it, maybe i wrong, bran fog being as it is, sorry i cant be more helpful, i hear you though about travelling anywhere, terrible were left to feel that way

It's a really good idea to get a second opinion - well done for persisting! There is a specialist Lupus unit at Guys, but I haven't got details of individual rheumatologists. Someone who posted here has been part of a research project at the oral medicine centre there I think, but wasn't very impressed by the people she met.
Dr Bowman at Birmingham has been recommended by a few people; he's spoken at British SjS conferences. You could also look up other rheumies who have given papers there.
Where do you live? I'm in Brighton and I would recommend my rheumy. Not so sure about my neurologist! Message me if you'd like more details.

thanks for your replies, really appreciated, i tried to ring guys and they said they do have a rhumatology dept but said to ring a prof challcombe but he is in dental??? apparantly they refer all their sjogrens patients there even though he isnt a rhuematologist (excuse terrible spelling v tired today). Chickpea, what is your rhuemie like, is he very good??? brighton is only an hour away so definately possible. could you give me some more details please or PM me. If anyone else has any suggestions please fire away. Also i heard that the london lupus centre is good in St thomas's but wondered if anyone knows whether they deal with primary sjogrens too???

I'm quite new, but when Sjogren's came up for me intially, I phoned the BSSA helpline with a similar question, and they said that the Rheumaotologists in the UK all vary as to whether they have an interest in Sjogren's, but they didn't have a list. I am assuming you mean privately?? I'm not sure if they recommended her as I am in Devon, and Swindon is not too far away? Otherwise you could call their helpline?

By the way I am not seeing her, but kept her name just in case my Rheumy wasn't the absolute darling he turned out to be! (He is Dr Hutton in Plymouth, Devon)...
