Title: help with "starnge" pain
Post by: Tam on March 31, 2009, 01:05:20 PM
Once again I am on this forum filled with oh so much GREAT information and once again I have a question.  2 weeks ago I had shortness of breath and sore ribs as well as high stomach pain.  Doc made sure it wasn't cardiac-I knew it was not.  He said costochodritis and maybe pleurisy.  The breathing is better, though my ribs still ache now and then.  But, when I am having a bowel movement It hurts very much up under the bottom of my diaphram and for awhile afterwards I feel nausea and discomfort.  Any ideas about this?  I have the strangest symptoms-not easy tp figure out.  I appreciate any ideas anyone of you have!

There's a number of things that may cause this, but only your doctor can really narrow it down. There could be swelling from either the bowel or the pelvic organs (ovaries and uterus, bladder) caused by infection or inflammation, and the pressure of having a bowel movement causes referred pain.

It's not uncommon for pain from a source in the lower abdomen or pelvis to refer to the area under the diaphragm.

Please see your doctor again and give him the details of when the pain occurs, how it feels and how long it lasts, as well as details about the nausea and discomfort.

I have experienced something similar in as much as I had excruciatingly tender and painful ribs and suffered the breathing restriction and nausea.  It turned out to be coming from my spine.  I have an on going back problem which is aggravated by osteo in my neck.  It turned out that my spine was shifting because I was all out of balance, subconciously compensating from the pain in my back.  It cause my ribs to be out of line as well and thus the pain and tenderness.  It was the twisting of the rib cage that caused the breathing problem.  It is a long shot I know, but do you have back problems?  It might be worth having it checked out.
