Here's part of a scientific paper that I thought might be of interest to some:
Background Meditative techniques are sought frequently by
patients coping with medical and psychological problems
Because of their increasingly widespread appeal and use, and
the potential for use as medical therapies, a concise and
thorough review of the current state of scientific knowledge of
these practices as medical interventions was conducted.
Purpose: To systematically review the evidence supporting
efficacy and safety of meditative practices in treating illnesses,
and examine areas warranting further study. Studies on
normal healthy populations are not included. . Meditative
Prayer. Yoga. Relaxation Response.
The studies
included 958 subjects total (397 experimentally treated, 561
controls). No serious adverse events were reported in any of
the included or excluded clinical trials. Serious adverse events
are reported in the medical literature, though rare. The
strongest evidence for efficacy was found for epilepsy,
symptoms of the premenstrual syndrome and menopausal
symptoms. Benefit was also demonstrated for mood and
anxiety disorders, autoimmune illness, and emotional
disturbance in neoplastic disease. Conclusions: The results
support the safety and potential efficacy of meditative
sound studies is lacking. ? Mary Ann Liebert

Hi valentina
thnaks for posting this.
I 3 months ago, did my reiki 1 course, yesterday i did my reiki 2, its kept my stress down and boosted my confidence in getting out and doing it, i use the self healing tecniques to help me sleep.
" weeks ago i statrted tai chi and qui gong, its fab!! while doing certain excercises, the teacher tells you , by weight going on that part of foot your stimulating the kidney area, by doing this to stimulate the accupressure point, i hav eto say i have to throw myself out to go, but when i do, i feel better and sleep better, and next day is better for a nights sleep.
I know from my own expereince it reduces my stress, improves my mood, lessens my pain, cant be a bad thing :)
I recommend you try meditation/prayer/reikitai chi whatever your drawn to,thse things truly do help, im 37 my tai chi class avarage age is 60 id say, but you know i was a bit embarrased that some of them were more supple than me, but now theyre asking whi i cant, ive told them, and theyve been supportive and suggesting certain moves that help pain in certain areas, dont be put off things, give them a go
let us know how it goes for you

I've meditated for many years (started long before it was fashionable). I can't say whether it helps with symptoms or not, since it started long before the symptoms, but I do get an immediate lessening of pain, and frequently use meditation instead of medication. I know that I haven't had much trouble with anxiety or depression, and that seems to be quite unusual in the autoimmune world. I also have no sleep issues other than rare nights that I have to take a pain killer before I can fall asleep, and I routinely meditate and pray at bedtime. (Maybe the answer to the prayer is "take a pill, sometimes you have to accept help!")
My physio has mentioned that she's surprised that I can do what I do, considering the amount of tissue damage and muscle wasting I have, so I have to put that down to either meditation or stubbornness.
Thanks a lot for your stories...
I will get started very soon and will let you know
