Title: Anyone going to SF Patient Conf. in Arlington, VA?
Post by: ktfabian on March 07, 2009, 06:02:21 AM
I'm 99% sure I'm going to the conference this year but I had a few questions...

Has anyone gone before?  And if you did, was it worthwhile?  Do they sell tapes of the conference afterwords?

My son (the one in Iraq) has offered to pay for the conference and we'd stay with family about 50 minutes away, really knocking the cost down.  But with my husband out of a job, I'm hesitating to go through with the registration.  On the other hand, I'm the kind fo person who wants to k now every thing there is to know about what is going on with my body to help me deal with it better.  This has helped me get through all the surgeries and complications and procedures I've gone through with my back.  My husband says go, but I can here the hesitation in him voice.

If I do go, is there anyone else going that would like to meet up?

I'm really going back and forth on this.  The one speaker I want to see probably the most would be Dr. Kassan, talking about managing chronic pain.  I have a great pain management doctor, but he's very up front in telling me that dealing with back pain is very different than dealing with the pain that comes with AI issues and he doesn't know as much about it. I've ordered Dr. Kassan's book "Chronic pain for Dummies" so I'll have an idea of what he's talking about.  I'm also interested in the segment on combining traditional medicine with holistic medicine.

Those are just 2 of the segments over two days, and really, all of them sound interesting and informative to me.

I also think getting out of here for a few days wouldn't be such a bad thing for my husband, either.  I can tell he's stressed to the max, worrying about health care especially.  I've already done a lot of research (with the help of kim and Carrottop!) and have someone coming to the house Monday to talk about Medicare Part D and medigap insurance.  So I'm doing everything there is to be done to cover that issue at the moment.  He's got a severance package (200 were laid off at the end of their 12 hour shift Tuesday and Wednesday  :-[  At least they could have given them a hint!

let me know what you think.  Thanks, Tracy

Hi Tracy,

I have never gone to one of the conferences because they were always too far away. But I do believe we have a few members who have attended in the past. Maybe they can answer some of your questions.

Enjoy the conference.

Tracy,
I'll be giving achievement tests that week, so I can't come to this one.  Maybe someone else can, though.   We'll all look forward to hearing about it when you return.

Hi

I'm interested in going to the conference. Is there registration info up yet? I checked the SJS foundation website and saw the registration for Vegas. (Interesting spot to hold a dry eye conference!) but saw nothing yet on VA. Thanks!
