I posted this on another thread as well but wanted to post here as well. Anyone have any experience with general anesthesia?
Hi there - I just had surgery January 29 and had general anesthesia for it. I met with the anesthesiologist beforehand and discussed what the issues might be, and he was very helpful suggesting options and reassuring me he would be on top of any dryness in my eyes or throat.
While my memory of the first day after surgery is pretty fuzzy, it did seem as though the mucus in my throat was particularly thick and difficult to clear. But all in all, things went pretty smoothly.
The biggest problem for me following the surgery has been that I am healing so slowly, as a result of taking two immunosuppressant drugs, CellCept and Methotrexate. I just came back from the surgeon's office and we've decided to continue n antibiotic for a slight infection and to stay off the CellCept and Methotrexate until I am healed better, probably another two weeks or so.

Four surgeries since July and no problems due to Sjogren's, I do have a problem with intubation, but that is an anatomical problem not related to Sjogren's.
I was in a house fire and had a trache tube for 2 years.durring that time I had 3 surgeries for cancer related things.also due to the ss my teeth on top had to be pulled. Then after all that i was finally diagnosed with ss and who knows what else.I can say though i wasn't on any meds for ss at the time and I'm still haeling in my mouth in one spot.I took the trache tube out 2 years ago it's still healing.I have come to the realization I heal really slow.I think the ss has alot to do with that.

I just had surgery to remove my kidney on January 15th. I met with the anesthesiologist and he made sure my eyes were protected with ointment. I had no problems with my eyes and I have very dry eyes. I take Evoxac 3 times a day to stimulate saliva. I knew that I would have to skip my morning dose so I took the morning dose at midnight the night before. With the doctors permission, I took my own meds to the hospital. I was afraid they would not have Evoxac. The other thing I did was to ask to be the first case in the morning. I had my surgery at 7:30 am. I did exceptionally well healing from the surgery. I had tremendous anxiety regarding the extreme dryness I have and facing surgery but did very well. The hardest part for me was the nausea and vomiting from the pain medicine. I had this prior to Sjogrens but it seemed worse this time.
