Title: Hypoglycemia
Post by: Sandra on January 19, 2009, 03:13:02 PM
Hi everybody, wishing all the best for everyone. I have a new/different concern. I saw an endo last week, it took about a year to get to see him but he was good. We talked about my weird AI stuff and how at times I can get really, really sick in a way that is not indicative of sjs. Usually nausea, headaches, super fatigue to the point of lethargy/clumbsiness, impaired cognative function, terrible thirst and hunger to name a few. Just a real fun guy to have around. He thinks i may be suffering from hypoglycemia. I take prednisone and have for a long time 7.5 mg per day as a replacement dose for Addison's disease. But in the past couple years things have not been as good as they have in the past and I have had to double that dose several/many times to 15mgs. He thinks it is realted to the longterm prednisone use (since1989). Anybody else have hypoglycemia issues? It was suggested i get a glucometer but I dson't really know what that would prove but pain and more health/drug costs.....I prefer to figure out how to not have my body get to the point of hypoglycemia, you know figure out how to deal with it. Anybody have any suggestions? thanks Sandra

There are a number of books on this topic that suggest good meal plans and methods for stabilizing your blood sugar. As the years wear on this may turn into Type II Diabetes so please keep an eye on it. you may also wish to check my general posting: sad...

Hi  :)

I have a friend and two of her kids are hypoglycemic. Well - they're not kids now - they're adults. One used to get terrible migraines which linked in with low sugar levels.

Once the problem was identified she always made sure they had energy bars with them, which they'd eat when they had a break, rather than a biscuit or fruit. AI diseases run in her family. Her hypoglycemic daughter has recently been dxd as celiac.

Take care - Scottie  :)

You know the headaches are a real bug-a-boo but the thing that gets me is how on earth do i control the low sugar when it happens in the middle of the night? Who wants to eat something at 2 am out of a dead sleep when their eyes are mere slits?!!  ::)

Would a glucose tablet work? I don't know.

Unfortunately this is a side effect of long term steroid use.Perhaps not a meal at night but a juice or small something would keep the sugar from bottoming out.

I hope you get things straightened out quickly and feel better!
