Title: New Humidifier, Crock Pot, and Eye Exam in 1 day
Post by: eyeamdry on January 08, 2009, 07:02:58 PM
Today was a busy one for this Sjogie.  First, I had an eye dr appointment as I need a new RX so I can get new glasses for the ones I ruined when I smashed my brains against the sidewalk a couple of months ago.  This eye dr was one I went to about 10 years ago, prior to my Lasik mistake.  I asked him if he has many Sjogrens patients and he said, "yeah, I have a couple, it's pretty rare and some even have dry mouth."  I said, "yeah, I know, I wake up every hour at night."  He asked if I used artificial tears.  Duh.  Poor guy, he doesn't know any better and it's just because he's on my eye dr list for my new insurance.  I've been around the country to the nations top docs and they can't fix me, I'm happy to get a new RX from him.

Then, we went to an old fashioned hardware store.  They have everything.  You can find almost anything from the past and present there.  I knew my hubby was missing our burned out Crock Pot and I thought we could look there.  We got one, it's white and the crock sits in the heating thing.  It's 3 1/2 quarts as if he got what he wanted it would be as big as a dishwasher.

Then, I thought HUMIDIFIER.  Ding.  They had a Holmes model for a small room.  I'd just bought one and took it back because it was so loud.  This one was a warm mist and I read they were quiet as this is for the bedroom.  It's running now and it's QUIET.  It holds a gallon of water, has no filter and needs cleaning DAILY?  I'll have to read up on that.  Daily?

My eyes are all icky and really dry now because the doc dilated me.  We went into the hardware store for a roll of sticky tape which cost .50 and I spent $68, but I think it was a good shopping trip.  I'll update this thread on my humidifier a bit later..  Lucy

Oh Lucy.. I really hate that dilated eye thing... yuuk!

I bet the shopping made you feel better.  I have been thinking about a humidifier also.  I don't like the idea of cleaning one daily.

Lucy,
You are one lucky lady.  Wow! what a great day you had.  We had an old fashion country store too until WalMart and Home Depot moved in our neighboring town.  I really miss it.

Oooooo I would love to have that crock pot.  Mine too burned out last summer and I miss it.  I made the mistake of letting my hubby go buy one.  You guessed it, BIGGER is BETTER.  I could cook a turkey in this one and it takes two men and a boy to move it from the cabinet to the counter top. ::)  I'm holding out hope for a small one like my old one.

If the snow and ice that's predicted for the weekend holds off, I am going to a auction.  They have one listed (in box) in the sale contents.  I hope the weather holds off.

Take care and enjoy that humidifier and crock pot.

Hugs, Pooh

I have access to TWO old fashioned hardware stores!  The one I was in today is in the "city."  I also have one down the road from me which is the "corners" hardware.  Both excellent and make for wonderful shopping.  I didn't realize how lucky I was!  We have Walmart and KMart too, but a couple of times a year, I go to the other hardware stores.  You all would be really jealous if you could see what i mean.

Pooh, I made sure I was there when WE bought a crock pot.  Hubby is out of sorts a bit because I picked one out.  He'd have liked the turkey-sized one.  He always cooks for 12 and there are only two of us, no grandkids, one adult daughter.  He eats the same thing for a long time.  I'm always telling him, but it doesn't work.  Since he does most of the cooking, I can't complain too much.  Lucy

Gotta love a man who cooks.

We have a tractor supply store in our area, its incredible. A huge amount of stuff I can't figure out why it's called The Tractor supply store it has such a variety of merchandise, really fun to wonder around in. Here is something Ironic - Its at the home city of Sam Walton and Wal-mart head quarters.  ;D. I can remember shopping at the first and only Wal-mart.

Were going to have weather close to 70 degrees today. I just told my husband I want to go to The tractor supply store today. Lucy you have inspired me to go shopping. I've got a nice little crock pot.

I'm thinking Pressure cooker. Irish has inspired that.

Oh, Kim we (hubby) already has a pressure cooker and canner.  He's trying out the new crock pot right now and I won't tell anyone what he's cooking.  He cooks wild game sometimes and I do not eat any of it.  Sometimes I do not like the smell of it cooking.  It's about 10 degrees out, so opening the windows isn't an option.

My husband loves to cook.  He spent the morning today, in snow banks and weather at 12 degrees loading wood and delivering 3 loads of firewood.  Just so you don't think he sits around in an apron.  He will be 70 in May (he's a lot older than me-really.)  I wish I had 1/4 of his energy.  He makes pies and does jam from berries he gets out back.  I eat all the pies and stuff too.  I never try to break his spirit in the kitchen and just stay out of his way.  :-)
