Hey, a quick question. I have been noticing the past few months that my face is looking round. I am a thin, long-faced person. It looks like I have gained a ton of weight, but have actually been losing. When I woke up this morning my cheeks look silly they are so puffy. Has anyone had something like this? The fullness is mostly in my cheeks, the cheeks I used to dream of ::)

Does it hurt when you touch them, or just swollen?
It hurts some back by my ears, but the cheeks are just swollen.
Sounds like it might be Parotid Gland. I think you should see an ENT and have it checked out.

I'm quite petite and have a small face and recently I've noticed that my cheeks are swollen all the time - it almost looks like I have eyebags from my nose to my ears. I think this is related to the Sjpgren's. They are not painful, so I'm not concerned about infections.
I hope you find out what's causing yours soon.

I too have chipmunk cheeks. In addition have been noticing lately my face squaring off due to the glands under my chin bone also hardening.
Going to Johns Hopkins for SjS consult next week, this is one of the issues I hope to pursue.

Thanks for posting about this. I have gone from having a thinnish face with quite good cheekbones - vanity, I know! - to having a little fat face with a double chin. Do your cheeks actually feel thicker than they used to, I mean when you feel with your tongue on one side and fingers on the other?
Sometimes it's hard to know what's SjS and what's meds. I thought my puffy cheeks were just caused by the steroids I've been on for 4 months but maybe it's also the SjS. I'll ask the rheumy next week and if I find out anything useful I'll share it here.
Kathy - are the bags under your eyes just puffy or also dark?
Chico - I've been trying to type while also pressing round my jaw line after reading your post! Definitely got some hardening there. Please, please let us know about your Johns Hopkins visit next week. I'd love to go there but I don't think the cash-strapped National Health Service in the UK would pay for that! Hope you find some answers.

In the inside corners of my eyes they are dark. Otherwise, the swelling is not like conventional eye bags, just the whole area looks swollen. If I can get my son to take a picture, I will try to show you (gosh, that sounds scarey - don't want to frighten anyone ;)
Hi Chana, take a look at my you-tube video and see if your cheeks look like mine. If so its just plain ole swollen parotid glands that comes with the territory. Sometimes they are larger than other times but basically they are always there.

Thanks for sending me the link. It's good to put a face to a name! Yes, apart from the stubble and goatee beard I reckon my face looks a lot like yours! I also have lots of the steroid fluffy face too. More questions for the rheumy next week.
