Post by: Epson on December 23, 2008, 03:38:30 PM
I know that some of you will be celebrating Christmas or Hanuka, well, for the rest of us there's Festivus!  Please be careful not to hurt yourself during the feat of strength and have a very Festive Festivus.

OK Epson, I'm "outing you on the Festivus thing.  I read this and thought Epson is just typing weird stuff.  Then I had to "google" it and found the following.  Thanks for a chuckle.  Lucy

Collie,

When I was a kid the holiday was spelled Hanuka or Hanukkah on calenders, then Chanukkah appeared.  I understand that any of the spelling are correct with Hanukkah being the most common, but I am no expert on Yiddish or the Hebbrew language, after all I am a Festivus. ;D

Have a good time and Happy Festering to all.

Hmmmm...

There could have been also "Festivus- The Lost Gunsmoke Episode"  in which Festus is out in the barn and visited by Santa and eight tiny reindeer, but no one believes him?

Thanks for the link...

This is great - thanks Epson!  And thanks too to eyeamdry for the link.  I think an unadorned aluminium pole would look just lovely in the corner of my sitting room.  And which family wouldn't benefit from an 'Airing of Grievances'?  How warm and cosy it all sounds!

It's already Christmas day here in the UK and as a good Jewish mother I'm just about to go and fill my children's stockings with chocolates and treats.  We all find our own ways of combining different traditions, and celebrating Chanukah/Hanuka with a little bit of Christmas works for us.

Happy holidays to you all - Chana xxx

ps I think 'Hanuka' works as a spelling for people who get confused by the 'ch' at the beginning of 'Chanukah'.  People often have trouble pronouncing my name which also has the soft 'ch' so maybe simple is best?

Chana,

Don't you have Hanukkah Harry in the UK?  I find that we goyim can pronounce a lot of Hebbrew and Yiddish words if we pretend that we have a fish bone stuck in the back of our throats.  As you can see I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood and my Jewish friends are shocked that I know more about the religion then they do and are equally surprised with my Yiddish vocabulary.

What a smash Festivus was and I mean that literally!  During the feats of strength my wife's nephew lifted my 50 inch projection TV over his head, unfortunately he put it down kind of hard and now I have yellow and blue ghosts in the picture when I watch TV.

I am so happy that this boy dropped the TV, now I can get that new 60 inch plasma TV that my wife said we could only get when our present TV goes kaput.  That poor kid was so upset, he has know idea how happy he made me.  He is as strong as an ox, but every since he got hit in the head with a shotput at a track and field event, he has never been quit the same.  I guess you have to have slow reflexes to get hit by a shotput.

Grandma had a great time.  She was going through food like branches in a wood chipper, I guess she found a pair of dentures at the Good Will that fit her just right.

It was great, no presents means no cleaning up all that wrapping paper and while we were outside wrestling, the dog got up on the table and licked all the dirty dishes clean.  She did such a good job licking the dishes that there was no reason to wash them, just put them away!  Also no left overs, does anyone know what sauerkraut does to a dog?  Well lets put it this way, she is not sleeping the the bedroom for the next 3 days.

Lynnmarie,

It was fantastic, if only I could get others to embrace this Holiday, so much stress would be released and avoided and we Soggies need that ;)
