Title: Need some advice for Monday
Post by: ProudAuntieNWash on December 15, 2008, 12:31:01 AM
We have snow here, and I am wearing a cast on my leg because of a ruptured Achilles heel tendon. I have not had this problem before about wearing a cast with snow. Any ideas on how to keep from breaking my neck??

Denise

PS Just to warn people about the antibiotic Levaquin. It can cause people with Sj to rupture your Achilles heel tendon. Found out of course the hard way.

Should also be watched and not given to children still growing can cause it in them(children)also and other "anchoring" ligaments and tendons.

I just finish my last Levquin, nice to know.  As far as how one keeps from breaking their neck while wearing a cast, that is a no brainer, stay inside until the cast comes off and don't need crutches.  I can't count the number of times I fell when I had a cast or was on crutches.

One time I fell like a ton of bricks in a shopping mall during the Christmas Holiday.  When I fell people just walked over and around me.  I just couldn't believe that not a single person offered to help me up or retrieve my crutches that went flying like missiles when I fell.

Hi Denise..Are you wanting to know because you have to get out? Like maybe for work?   The only suggestion I can come up with is to rent a wheelchair to put in your trunk and have a family member help u into the car and have someone on the other side at work willing to help you get out.

Good luck! Cortnee'

I have seen flip down spikes added on to crutches. I think of them as studs or chains for snow tires. you can get shoes with them also.

Along with the snow, it is really really cold and so the air is super dry inside and out here in Western Washington state. Be sure to have even more liquids, moisturizers and so on with you wherever you go. The chair is definitely worth it since this weather will be around through Christmas anyway.

It's sure nice to see so much sun and light though, rather than the usual Seattle dark rainy winter weather.
