Do you ever wonder, no matter how great your Dr. seems, if he forgets about you when you walk out of his office? Well, my Rheumy treats me very well. Especially after this horrible flare, and the lung thing, he has seen me every few days. Well, this evening, I got the most sincere phone call from him. He called me to see how I was feeling toady and he just wanted to check in with me before the long weekend. He made sure I had enough meds, and enough pain meds to see me through until monday. Then the most shocking thing happened. He gave me his personal cell phone number, just in case I started feeling worse, or anything happened I could call him directly.
Well, I feel so good about it. When I had to go into the hospital a couple of weeks ago, it was on a Sunday, they did not call him and it was a fiasco. Now I feel more secure about being this ill and him being out of his office. I course I would never call him unless it is an emergency, but I know if it is, I can. It gives me piece of mind.
He is so funny, he told me he didn't want to hear that I tried to cook Thanksgiving Dinner! I think he wants me to keep being able to breathe, HaHa
Fairy
Fairy, That is great you have that relationship with your Doctor. I know when I was pregnant my OB-GYN gave me his cell phone number too because of the whole high risk thing. I have a few other Doctors that have told me to just call their office and they will admit me in the hospital without having to go through the whole ER experience.
Take Care!
Vicky
It is wonderful when a doctor does something like this!
Also a testament to your integrity. I imagine he thinks highly of you and knows you will not abuse him.
Probably you are a very nice person, Fairy!
Have a wonderful Turkey Day and keep breathing, sweetie!

My rheumy is like this also...and I tease him and tell him he can never retire...I would just follow him home :D :D.
I have had his cell # and never had to use it *knocking on all wood I can find* but I do feel more secure knowing that if I ever have to go to the ER w/something related to the SLE/SJS I do have to ability to give them contact info (or call him myself).
I wouldnt trade him for anything....seriously..I read so many dr horror stories that it makes me cringe...I am so thankful there are true caring drs still out there.
You sometimes have to kiss alot of frogs before you find your prince :-*
Hi fairy :)
Sounds like a really great doctor. having someone like that in the picture will be soooo helpful. When there's a trusting relationship it makes managing any condition so much easier.
hang on to him!
Take care - Scottie :)
Hi Fairy,
I too have a great cardiologist who not only gave me his home number but also gave me his brother's name and phone number in Glasgow, Scotland when we visited there. I was really concerned about going because I had Super Ventricual Tachycardia at the time. This gave me a real feeling of security while away. Oh yes, his brother is also a cardiologist.
Hang on to that doctor of yours, they are very rare.
Pooh
Sound like a Fairy Tale to me ;D
Have a great Thanks Givings, invite the doc.
My endo also gave me his cell number. With heart involvement, neuro issues that he didn't know where they were coming from, etc. I guess he felt better that way. He's also called to check on me a couple times. He's the only doc I've found like that, though! It's a good feeling when you find a good one. I did call him once at his office, and told him I just didn't feel right... didn't have much more of an explanation than that. He admitted me directly to the hospital, but was going out of town (I think he forgot to tell me). The hospital bungled it all.
None of the testing he wanted done was done, they messed up my meds... not bringing my neurontin in any kind of timely manner and not in the right dose... took me off meds I shouldn't have been taken off of... but it was all the hospital. He didn't even know that the doc at the hospital had taken me off my meds. >:( One was to control my heart failure, etc... important meds. He wasn't happy. They all questioned my diagnosis which was already made and not why I was there even...won't go back to that hospital...
I digress... the best docs are the ones who take the time to know you enough to know that if you're calling their cell... there's a real problem there...
