Title: Start my new job tomorrow
Post by: pudmott on November 16, 2008, 01:38:53 AM
Well folks i have been talking about it for weeks and now the time has come.

I start my new job tomorrow. I have spent all week and most of the weekend moving furniture and organising rooms, getting everything ready for when i start.

Tomorrow begins two weeks of training. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Thankfully i think my sinus infection is starting to get bored where it is and is moving to greener (no pun intended) pastures. I'm really stiff and sore from moving furniture all over the place, but it is a good kind of sore.

Im about to pack my bag with all the goodies in it i will need for training. I willpost tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

One chapter closes and new adventure is about to begin.................

Good luck with the new job :) .  How the brain fog is OK when you are trying to remember peoples names.  Either that or use being the new girl wisely.  When you have worked somewhere for a long time and forget peoples names it can be kinda embarrassing.  But when your new it is expected of you.

GOOD LUCK :)

Our dear Pud . . . tomorrows the day, eh?  WOOHOO!!

You'll be great at this job!!  Wishing you all the best.  I'm glad you are feeling somewhat better than you have in recent days - continue to take care of yourself and pace yourself.

In reference to you being sore from moving furniture, etc.  Here in the states we have these handy dandy furniture sliders you place under your furniture and you can "slide" the piece anywhere you want with no effort at all.  These are sooooo cool.  I use mine all the time.  I can move a "loaded" entertainment center (with tv, stereo, etc.) all by myself and don't EVEN work up a sweat!!  Do they have these kind of things there?  If they do, I'd strongly encourage you to buy a box.  The box I have comes with four large sliders and four smaller sliders.  It can move objects up to 3,200 pounds on carpet, cement, linoleum, ceramic tile.  A great investment you won't be sorry to buy.  Hmmmm, would make a great gift for someone too!!  ;)

Ok, sale pitch is over . . . lol.  Just don't want you to hurt yourself moving things around when you need to be ready for your new job.

Best of luck to you Pud!!

Bucky

Congrats not only on the new job, but on your ability to work; not too many of us still have that ability. I know you will do well in the training and at the job. Good luck and remember to pace yourself.

Pud, best wishes tomorrow on the start of your new job.  There is nothing like the sore muscles from moving furniture all around!  I never do it myself.  Hate change.  LOL.  Lucy

Ahh guys,

you are all good for the Pud soul.

Steve,
I am doing nurse triage working from home.

Today was like christmas. we got to the training centre and there was a big box for each of us with our names on it. Inside was our computer, keyboard, mouse and phone and headets. We had our training manuals and other stuff we need. We set them all up and spent the day learning to use them. Most of  it i knew cause i'm a computer nerd anyway but i had fun with the instant messenger.
We have heaps to learn in 10 days and tonight i am very brain drained but in a good way. My brain is ticking over like it hasnt done in a while. Its so nice not to be physically exhausted for a change.
This job is going to be very full on but very exciting. We will be taking calls from all over australia. I did find though that the company i am wroking for actually has its parent company in America.

so now i'm off to bed for my beauty sleep. Some of us need more than others.

thanks again for all your well wishes.
I will do this for all of you who can't

Pud

Hi Pud  :)

Glad your first day went well. It's physical exhaustion that 'gets' me - I like my brain to stay busy.

In the UK we have a service called NHS direct. We can phone it up if we're uncertain about it and a nurse on the other end advises whether a trip to the doc is the right way to go or not. They'll also advise on medication. Is that the sort of thing you're doing?

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Guys,
Just popping in before work.

Scottie what you described is exactly what I will be doing. People will ring and tell us what is wrong ith them and based on what they tell us we can direct them to where they need to go.

The government is trying to do it to ease the burden on our hospitals and emergency depatments cause they are getting too overcrowded.

Hi Pud  :)

well - it's a service I've used quite often in the UK and have found it really useful. I've phoned on behalf of kids and myself, so it'll be a great job you're doing!

Take care - Scottie  :)

pud, I am so excited to hear about your new job. To think that you can use your nursing working at home!!!! That is such a good idea. So many times people get to the wrong doc and time doctors and appt time get wasted. Very good idea. I would bet that the USA will end up doing this eventually. Good luck and stay rested! Irish ;D

Irish

i think sme parts are already doing it. Cause the company i am working for originally started in America then moved into europe and now the Asia pacific region. So far it is in New Zealand and in most states of Australia.

It is certainly going to be interesting and yes working from home is going to be great. It's only been two days and im already feeling the benefit of not running around like a headless chook on the wards.

Working n a virtual office is going to be interesting too. My team leader - my immediate boss is in Perth which is literally on the other side of Australia to me. Im near Sydney. As a comparison, its like i am working in New York and my boss is in LA. It's very bizarre. We all communicate by email and instant messenger. You get the best of both worlds, the family atmosphere without people getting on your face and bitching.

So now i have two online families..... ;D ;D ;D

I love this one best though

Glad to hear you are liking this so far. My daughter has telecommuted for over five years now - she is a computer programmer on one coast of the States, and her company is on the other. Once a year or so she goes to headquarters to work and hang out, but they can teleconference on their computers and it is like being in the same room together.

What my daughter has found is that she needs to get dressed like she is going to an office every day, and also she has regular lunch dates - I'm Mondays - and walks the dog on her breaks. Her hobbies are horseback riding and photography, all things to get her moving and out the door. You may find you need to do something similar to vary the routine and location.

Anyway, glad to hear things are going well.

THat's what i plan to be doing. I will get dressed for the "office" and when i am not working i will get out and walk the dogs or go to the gym or have lunch with my partner. it just depends when my shifts are.

And guys sure you can ring anytime as long as you can pay the international call....lol i'll give you my direct number...............lol

We did practice calls today it was fun. Although i gotta say i'm a bit bored with the computer stuff already. the programs are too easy. im supposed to tak two weeks to learn it and im doing it with my eyes shut after 3 days......sounds a bit big headed but im not meaning to be. i just want to get in and do it now.

I know what you mean about the computer, Pud. When our hospital went "online" in 1979, they scheduled nurses training sessions...2 eight hour days, with allowance for as many return visits as necessary. Since we were the first Canadian hospital to fully integrate with medical information computer systems, we didn't have a lot of guidelines.

Anyway, after the first 4 hour session (which included a half hour break) I was asked to not come back...I thought I'd really messed up, until they asked if I could get away from my unit long enough to help teach the program  :D. It lead to an interesting 6 week secondment to the education/AV departments, and I had a great time.

I've always been a gadget person; loved getting new ventilators, monitors and equipment like AV-assist pumps, dialysis and pheresis machines! Even IV pumps were getting pretty sophisticated before I retired.

Well Pud I continued your other thread before I saw this one.  Glad things are going well - pace yourself and make sure you do take time to do all the things you listed.  Walking dogs and lunching with partner seemed the two most important to me.

Best wishes
