Hi all
just got some questons and ailments to share to seeif anyone can relate.
I've got myself sinus ifection number 4 since july. This one came on pretty quick. Started with a sinus headache and sore throat, then i got the blocked nose and then the infection (all in aobut 36 hours) Then in another 12 or so it went to my chest. Got the lovely squeeky cough and have so much green mucous from nose and chest i can start my own slime fight.I feel like i have been running temps but as usual nothing shows. I sit about 36.8 highest i ever seem to get is 37.
This time the mucous is thick. I have had major sinus pain more than before and mostly on my good side which is a worry.
I am needing to use my salbutamol puffer every four hours cause i feel tight in the chest. Like all other times even though i feel tight my lungs are clear. Although this time round i have developed a wheeze. It happened last night when i was lying in bed. i was about to blame the dog when i realised it was me. It was really loud and seemed to come more from my throat than anywhere else.
I went to the doc today cause i didnt have anymore ab's left. She checked me out and gave me a script for more Ab's. said lungs were clear. gave me thesinus washout lecture yadda yadda yadda. said im doing it already. I snort a bit of decongestant, snort a bit of nasonex, flush with the sinus wash, do the heat thing to get it all moving. I also asked her for a script for amphotericin lozenges again cause last night i was getting heartburn like pain and found that is a sign the candida is going down my GI tract. Well cause my GI doc pescribed it last time she didnt want to do it and told me to call him. How hard is it to write a script for gods sake?
Anyway called the GI doc he is happy to write a script and i will pick it up tomorrow. Like Irish posted once. im a walking yeast infection. Candida is a close friend :-\
So here are some questions:
Do you find that your GP's a sometimes loath to treat things and tell you to go to your rheumy (in my case immuno)? Im getting very frustrated with my gp office. i rarely get to see the same dr although i have one specific one i can never get into him when i need to so have to see one of the others. Even when i do see him though he is also reluctant to do anything and tells me to see the immunologist. Its not like my immunologist sits and waits for meto call. it can take 6+ weeks to see him.
Also i feel that i would benefit from an inhaled steroid at this stage such as Pulmicort(in Aus) however i am already on prednisone (30mg) this week. Can you taake both at once? Am also squirting nasonex up my nose which is also steroid?
Tonight my salivaries are beginning to get sore again. They have only just gone down from the last round. Will be checking out the thread on massaging and heat and getting onto that.
My daily beauty routine heat, snort, squirt, inhale, swallow, massage and blow. A sjoggies life is always fun :D :D :D
Any other tips would be most greatfully accpeted.
Pud
I'm sorry you are a PUDdle of goo lately!
I went through this with my son for several years during his childhood. Most likely the original infection has never resolved and been kind of brewing all these months with periodic "boil overs" which is then tamped back down to simmer with antibiotics.
Sinus disease can be tenacious to say the least and I found so many doctors were at a loss as to how to GET RID OF IT~ In the end my son went on IV antibiotics and had 2 debrisment surgeries a week till he was clear (12 weeks). It was a terrible experience but finally ended the madness. He was 10 years old and had not grown for more than 2 years. The doctors said the disease had stunted his growth and he would probably be a very small adult.
He is now 21 years old 6'2" tall, on University Rugby team and a bit stronger than a horse.
I guess I would suggest you ask for a good cleaning up in there. I know this does not sound very appealing but I believe that is what finally did the trick for us.
I love you dearly sweetie PUDdle!
Janna
Hi Pud,
I'm sorry that you're still feeling lousy, this critter got a hold of you, now to find the right combo of treatments to knock it on to it's little keester. I found that with me, the sinus infections go in a cycle, and I've not had one for a while now (just in the roots of some of my teeth - go figure).
About the doctors, yep, been there and got the gold medal for not killing the doctor. :D Can you change practices by chance? I know I've changed primary doctors a couple of times, and I'm starting to search for another Internist because the one I have is a decent sort at the beginning, just doesn't seem to care much in the long run.
"Anyway called the GI doc he is happy to write a script and i will pick it up tomorrow", I'm glad that you've got a doc that will help you in a pinch! Whew, can he maybe recommend a GP or Internist for you? There's got to be a better doctor for you out there; you deserve better.
I don't know about steroids other than Nasonex (love the stuff - helps keep me away from the ENT), but I'm sure that there will be a member that can shed some light on this subject.
Take care my friend -
Patze
I know that this will sound very strange, but try some Vicks or eucalyptus on your feet. My sinus infection turned into an extreme cold before I could find the Vicks. The Canadian Government did a study and found that this worked.
Thanks guys for your replies,
Janna,
I have had one sinus clean out and when i saw the ENT he said he may do another one but would see how the nasonex worked first. It is certainly helping with the inflammation and helping me clear the stuff out. The interesting thing is the comparrison of CT scans between the first and now 7 years later is that even though i have had the wash out, there is no change in the infection. it s still all there. I see the ENT in January again and see what he says but yes i feel im going in again.
Patze,
Yes im lookinjg at changing my GP practice. I have to search, we are so short of GP's here and to get to see one can take up to two weeks. But i will be getting the yellow pages out and searching. As for the teeth. Yeah i have a tooth aparently with roots that go into the sinus. My teeth are so so sore at the moment and im getting fissures in the tongue and ulcers too.
Joe,
I have heard about the vicks thing and have recommended it to others. just have a problem remembering to do it myself.
Thanks again
Pud (dle)
GP's are slightly more knowledgeable or maybe less than an RN with a masters -
I got to the point where I skip the GP - call a specialist, then get a referral from the GP's nurse
Hi Pud :)
The tight feeling in the chest with clear lungs could be related either to candida - or heartburn - or a mix of the two. The low temperature could be to do with thyroid activity - or lack of it rather.
None of that would be helped by the sinus infection but it could throw docs off the track of the sqeaky cough.
I've been troubled by a squeaky cough recently and a tight feeling chest and my GP decided it was stomach acid getting into the upper repiratory track and she said that would give the tight chest feeling as well. (She gave me extra Omeprazole for a month plus Gaviscon - and the tightness did ease. Still have silly cough)
I had 'granulated thrush' down my esophagus once (I think that's what they called it) and that didn't make my chest feel tight but it did make me feel as though I couldn't breathe properly and I had to take an extra deep breth every few minutes because I felt I wasn't getting enough air. Thrush meds sorted it out.
Take care - Scottie :)
Hey Scottie,
I was just treated for oesophageal thrush and i feel what im experiencing now is the same again. I have called the GI doc and am getting a script for amphotericin lozenges today. they really helped last time.
I'm feeling off today. I think it is freshening up again. i can't get my bootie of the lounge and am feeling like i got something stuck in my throat and the heartburning thing.
AHHHHHHHHH just moaning.
Pud
Hi Pud :)
When my thyroid played up I felt as though I had a bit of bread stuck in my throat a lot of the time. A lump - but not all that well defined. Heartburn is miserable. I found that Omeprazole night and morning plus Gaviscon 4 times a day really helped. I also have the head end of my bed raised a bit so I never lie totally flat. That's because I have a hiatus hernia and the scid just slops around as far as I can see. It doesn't stay where it's meant to anyway!
If I bend down to stick something in an electric socket I can end up with a mouthful of stomach acid! I think I was given something more than lozenges to clear the thrush. I think I was given something heavy duty like Flagyll.
I hope things ease up for you soon.
take care - Scottie :)
Hey Scottie,
I got the script for the lozenges today. They really helped last time. i noticed tonight that i am ahving trouble swallowing again and the heartburn and pain is still there.
I am having a barium swallow on friday maybe that will show something. I definately know what you mean by the acid in the mouth thing when bending over. It aint nice.
I have a referral for some bloods to check my t3 and t3 and free t3 and a heap of other tests. i am going to get it de done soon just need to get the $ sorted. it will be $200 for the swallow.
I think some of the sinus stuff is coming from my teeth. i also have to get an xray of my mouth done. I swear i have had so much radiology in the last few months i am positively nuclear.
I had acupuncture on my arm yesterday. It has seriously irritated whatever has been happening and it has been hurting all day.
I will start the lozenges tomorrow and hopefully it will shrink the golf ball.
thanks for your input scottie
Pud
Hi Pud,
I didn't realize that y'all don't have a lot of GP's, wow, that's amazing, but I'm glad that you'll be looking for a new practice.
Wow, even with private insurance, you still have to pay that much? Dang. Sure hope that the test points the doctor in the right direction.
You being positively nuclear? Join the line! ;D I swear the dentist gets a kickback on those darn things (I get an x-ray just about every visit, and I see him about every 2-3 weeks)! ;) :D
Have a great Pud day!
Patze
Pud,
I am sorry you are struggling so much. Sinus infections are awful. Yes, you can take prednisone along with pulmicort. I take pulmicort, serevent, nasonex, and singulair, all trying to control the lungs. And when that doesn't work, out comes the nebulizer and steroids. ::) I don't know what more you could possibly do for yourself. You have an excellent program LOL for the sinuses. And of course you are drinking lots of fluids.
And yeah its great to "have" a doctor only to be put off for 2 or more weeks to see him/her. I always end up seeing the PA which is a joke with something like SS.
Take care.
Designer
Hey designer
thanks for the info. think i might put myself on the pulmicort.
Not going the nebulizer though. i was feeling particularly funky the other night so thought i would use it.
well...........after pale clammy, shaking like a dog s****** razor blades, thought my heart was going to burst clear through my chest or just plain stop it was beating so fast. Yeah not going there again. will stick to the puffer.
You like my beauty program designer. i find it works well...........lol
Pud
Pud,
If you ever really need the nebulizer, there is a different medicine to use that does not cause the heart problems :D It is called Xopenex. Ask your dr. about it if you need to. No problems with it at all. It does the same thing, just missing the ingredient that causes the bomb in your chest. Don't ask me why they even prescribe the "bad" kind......
Designer
Xopenex is way more expensive than the albuterol inhalers, isn't it? I agree though - it works great and doesn't make you jumpy.
Genko
Hi Genko,
You are right, Xopenex is more expensive and I don't know what kind of insurance coverage Pud has. That is so silly when you think about it, you have to pay more if you don't want the jitters. ::)
Designer
hi guys
Im not sure if we get Xopenex here or if it is under another brand name. Our medication system works a bit different here and some are subsidised by the government. If they aren't then i can claim partial cost through my private health insurance. If things dont clear up i will check it out cause there's no way im using the salbutamol neb again.
I actually dont think it is asthma per se. Im not sure what isgoing on cause my lungs are clear. its the upper airways. Who knows.
Im having a barium swallow tomorrow just for somthing different. that should be fun.
Will keep you posted
Pud
Pud . . . sorry you're not feeling well. :(
It was nice chatting with you tonight. :) Pud, Pud, Pud . . I can think of alot more tastier things to swallow than barium. Can I send you something?? ;) Seriously, I hope all goes well with your test and you start to feel better pronto.
Take care of yourself. Sending hugs your way.
