Title: Collapsed on treadmill during test
Post by: Tinker on November 06, 2008, 07:42:36 PM
Well, I knew I was weak!  My twin sister has high cholesterol, so today I reported for lipid panel, ECHO of heart, treadmill with cardiolyte, & 24 hr. holter monitor.  I've got a mitral valve regurgitation problem, a murmur and haven't been back to the doc as I was told.  But I've seen every other doc within a 50 mi. radius!

Today, I was a little concerned I couldn't walk long enough to get my heart rate up.  I almost made it ......the tech. finally turned off the treadmill, and the right knee buckled, then the left knee buckled.

All of the sudden, the male tech scooped me up and carried me to the table.  I was sooooo embarrassed.  Had to lie down for a while cause I was so dizzy.

Guess that's the last treadmill I'll walk.  They said I'd get results in 24 hrs. But we know how that goes, huh?  Tinker

LOL! :D :D

Will do....not going near another treadmill again!  It WAS kinda nice being scooped up by a young, good-looking male specimen.  And he told funny jokes, too!  ;) ;) Wish all the hospital personnel were as nice as he was.

Tinker;

Being scooped up into the arms of a good looking young man who is funny too, almost makes for a perfect day, too bad you were too dizzy to enjoy it. I hope you are feeling better now, and stay away from the treadmill, apparently they are not your friend.

Hi Tinker,
I can't do treadmills either. :D  The last cardio test I had they made me sit on the edge of an exam table.  Then gave me a silcone ball for each hand.  Then they told me to swing my legs as if I were running and squeeze each ball as I swung my legs.  They told me to imagine I was running and swinging my arms and as my left leg went forward to squeeze the right hand and then the left as the right leg came forward.  ::)

Well, the test was complete flop.  I couldn't stop laughing long enough for them get a reading. :D  Mostly because I am not co-ordinated enough to do the stupid test.  But like you I had a cute good looking young guy that was laughing right along with me.   ;D

I hope you are feeling better and most of all Did you get his phone number? ;)

I did the treadmill about 5 years ago after having bad chest pain and blacking out.  I was also embarrassed, the doctor was yelling at me because they could find anything wrong and said I obvious do a lot of running.  I laughed and said ya to the refrigerator for another beer :P

Naturally I apologized to him for not having a heart attach while on the treadmill.

I have a treadmill test coming up since my heart was doing flip-flops.  Like many of my SJs symptoms it comes in waves.   I was having a wave of weird heart things but of course now that they are doing the testing the wave has passed.     Hope I don't collapse because I'm too heavy to be scooped up.
One thing about my heart doctor is that he is overweight.  I get a kick out of that!

Well - the things folk will do to be swept off their feet by a hunky young guy .... where did you say it was again !!!!

Seriously though, hope you're over your ordeal Tink and feeling better.  As for the overweight heart doctor - sounds like a case of do as I say and not as I do.

Always knew jogging was bad for you!!!

Yes, we all know how bad exercise is for us!! :D :D

Epson, you should be sooo ashamed you did not have a heart attack while on the treadmill.   :D :D

It does help to have a sense of humor about all this mess, huh?

Hey, I'm keeping my knight in shining armour for myself.  Go get your own knight!!   ;)

If they want to have you do a treadmill test make sure they check your hemoglobin and ferritin level first---especially if you have been short of breath and weak.

I was to be scheduled for the treadmill but asked to have it that day while I was there. I have to drive 90 miles and to come back was expensive and time consuming.

They put me on the treadmill and within 2 minutes I was a huffing and puffing and having trouble keeping up. They wanted to know if I was going to stop. No way would I stop. I was going to get that test done no matter what. I kept walking and puffing and the incline kept going up and the minutes went by and I just kept plodding along and they kept asking me if I wanted to quit. I finally quit at over 7 minutes and passed the test. HOWEVER, after having the shortness of breath and extreme weakness for many weeks and wearing a monitor for 2 weeks, the blood work came back and my ferritin level was 22 and my hemoglobin was 9.8. No wonder I was so darn short of breath!!!!

I was not worried about having a heart attack while on the treadmill as I had worked the last 4 years being quite weak and having to push myself much of the day and walking long distances at work with the weakness and some shortness of breath and balance issues plus the severe sweating. I think that I had really strengthened my body by pushing myself that way. Now I am fat and fluffy and have really gotten out of shape. Time to hit the exercise ball and the Pilates! Irish ;D

Kelly,  my heart doctor is overweight and cross-eyed.  I'm staying on that treadmill if it kills me!

I'll take the treadmill over a cystoscope any day :o  As far as doctors being over weight, I think they all are.  My Ruemy is about 5'4'' tall and 4' wide.  He told me I should drop about 10 to 15 lbs.  I asked him if I should go on his diet, I did get him to crack a smile as he tried to pretend that he didn't hear me. ;D
