Title: Anybody use home ultrasound?
Post by: Tinker on October 27, 2008, 08:40:49 PM
Well, I bought one today online.  It says it will help with muscle pain, tendonitis, etc.  Physical therapy treatments usually include ultrasound treatment so I thought I'd give it a try.  It was on sale for $99, no shipping, 60 day return, 1 yr warranty.  Has anyone else used one of these at home and did it help you? :)

I have used a Chi unit. It had a price around $700+. I could not keep it but it did help. (fibromyalgia)

Hey Navydad and Joe,

LOL!  I don't think those vibrations will help you any!

Joe, I have FM, too, so I'm glad to know this helped you.  I'm anxious for it to arrive.  I have a secret hope that it will make my cellulite disappear.   :) :)

Tinker-

I had one of those  things where you put the pads on and it did deep muscle stimulation, is that what you're talking about?

Mine helped quite a bit for a long time, but I have hardware in my back now and can't use it where I need it the most.

I hope it gives you relief,
Tracy

Is ultrasound the same as TENS ? If not, is one better than the other for 'nerve' pain in my feet ?

Ultrasound is not like a tens unit. (I have a tens unit and also had ultrasound done at the PT's office) A tens unit would work better to ease nerve pain. As a matter of fact the deep ultra sound that I had done on my hand actually sent the nerve pain in my hand through the roof! The longr she used it on my scar tissue the worse the nerve pain got until she had to stop because it burned that bad.I would then go home and put the tens unit onto ease the pain she inflicted on me. LOL

Sometimes a TENS unit can backfire on nerve pain.  I have a TENS unit and I decided to use it on my scalp and temple area near where I have trigeminal neuralgia pain.  It turned out to be a bad idea.  I want to add the face is a very sensitive area and this is probably why it made things hurt worse.  Lucy

I am trying to imagine how you could make trigeminal neuralgia worse. Yikes!

I had deep ultrasound on my hip when I had a bad bursitis several years ago. The PT did ultrasound, then deep tissue massage, and finally ice. It took several weeks but made a huge difference. I can see how the ultrasound could aggravate nerve pain.

It started the cycle of pain.  Somehow "TENSING" the area of the nerve set it up for worse pain.  Basically, it irritated the Trigeminal nerve is the best way I can put it.  I'm no dr, ya' know.   ;D  Lucy

I mean, how could it possibly hurt any worse than it already does?

If you want to try to use sound to heal, you can go to www.chakraforce.com The 12 tones are related to your organs and meridians. The rainbow or LED tones are related to your glands and chakras. The tones are preset for 30 seconds but I would not listen to one tone for over 3 min. I try not to listen to tones for over 15 min per session. The "Align Individual" helps if you have use the tones too much.

You will not find Fibromyalgia in the first list but you will find it o the tonations page. The website is taken down when it is placed on the first page.

These tones are based on Tibetan and Indian healing chimes, bells and gongs. It was from this technology that the Zappers were improved and the TENS units were created.

Sorry TMI.

You musn't put the tens unit pads directly over the nerve. It needs to be placed in the vicinity but not ON the nerve for it to help. Indeed had I placed the pad directly over the nerve I am sure it would've been more painful. A tens unit also has several different controls on it that you are in charge of, at least my unit does. I can change the intensity as well as the wave and pulse rate. It depends on what I am trying to achieve, what setting I need to use. I imagine everyone is different and one setting may be heaven to one person and the exact same one would hurt like mad to another. Still if I had to choose one therapy or the other I will always choose my tens unit.

Hi Tinker...
Just a little info while you wait for Joe...
I purchased a 'tibetan bowl' years ago (OMG so expensive) and used it at the beginning and end of my meditation. The sound is hard to explain, other than beautiful, soothing and 'grounding'... This is a nice site that may explain sound therapy a little more... I never sign up for any workshops or anything, I just read... Try googling.. sound therapy, charkras, tibetan bowls, crystal bowls... the little sites have a lot of info... my best ~

I found this on Youtube... its a chakra healing bowl 'concert'... it may give you a little more info ...

Sorry for the late response. I had to spend time at my museum today (curator), do Reiki for my wife's (Jan) bowling league and teach science to first and second graders.

Yes I use the tones to help me into remission and through bad episodes. I also use Juice therapy, Vitamins, minerals, herbs, Reiki, reflexology and aphorisms. (whew!) The pages are a result of my study as of 2002. I have not got the new pages up yet.

If you want more information, PM me for my contact information.

Thanks, Joe & Seabreeze,
I did take a look at your site, Joe, but didn't have enough time to study it.  I'll get back to it.....sounds interesting!
