This might seem like a really strange question but here it goes:
For those of you that have multiple piercings, mine are just in my ears, but this could apply to any piercings, have you had one that just doesn't want to heal? I got my ears pierced again for the 4th time end of August of 2007 and the left one (and some days the right one too) just doesn't want to heal. It's been over a year now, it is in the cartlidge, but I figured it would have healed by now. I keep getting infections and like little cysts that block the opening. I have to force the earring through which causes it to bleed and be really painful. I stopped with the hypo-allergenic earrings, they seemed to cause the little lumps, and went total silver which has stopped the lumps, but still not healing. Could this be because of the SJS that it won't heal? I wanted to get them pierced again after this (eventually) heals, but now I'm a little hesitant to do this again.
When I had the 3rd ones done, I had a problem with them. They infected badly, I had to use pliers to get the earring out because the ear had swelled around the stud. I let them heal and tried again, which was successful, but didn't take a year to heal. I did follow the piercing instructions, turned them, put their liquid on them, I also have used peroxide and alcohol which gets rid of the infections, but not the soreness and swelling.. I left the earrings in longer than the required 6 months, now I take them out at night...About every other day I can't get the left earring back in. :-\
Hi :)
I got my ears pierced many years ago and got them repierced about 2 years ago. 3 years ago I wore earrings at my daughter's wedding. One was a little difficult to get in - but the other was fine. I hadn't worn them steadily for some time - just when I went somewhere special really. I used to get little cysts too.
About 6 months after my daughter's wedding I was going somewhere and went to put earrings in. They just would not go. About 6 months later I went to get my ears repierced.
The woman who pierced them said "Are you sure you've had both ears pierced before?" Well I definitely had. She could see where the right ear piercing had been but the left ear had healed over to the extend that she couldn't even find a mark.
They did take a while to heal up but I haven't tried not wearing earrings since. I keep studs in because I don't want them to close completely again.
Take care - Scottie :)
If I don't wear earrings for a long time, the holes get smaller but they don't close up. Then they get crusty, infected, and hurt when I put earrings in again.
What helps for me: I put a dab of Bacitracin ointment on the earwires every time I put them in my ears (takes about a week to toughen up), and that keeps them from getting infected, crusty, etc.

Hi there,
I have 4 ear piercings in each ear from the lobe going up and one helix cartridge piercing. I have had the helix pierced a few times over the last 15 odd years and always had problems on and off so would let it heal and try again! My latest helix piercing has now healed and causes me no problems since I put in a gold anodized titanium barbell and used pharmacy grade lavender oil on it (found info searching the internet ). Some people may not be able to tolerate straight Lavender oil but I found it really good. I haven't had any problems for ages (touch wood!) thankfully. I don't change earrings often so the helix piercing is pretty happy being ignored now that I am wearing the titanium. Good luck.
Suzanne.
I used to pierce ears years ago in a jewelry store on Saturdays. I always gave everyone a very thorough education in taking care of their ears. The first lesson is to leave them in longer than the 6 weeks as often noted. The other thing I have done myself is to always keep my earrings clean and dip them in neosporin ointment before putting them in my ears.
From the story you are telling I would guess that you are not a candidate for ear piercing, sad to say. It sounds like your tissues are having an extreme reaction to the posts no matter what material they are. I would guess that has to do with your autoimmune disease and how it is over reacting to a foreign object.
If it was me I would not even pursue ear or body piercing anymore. You will most likely end up with bad infections and these can even be fatal. Antibiotics can't always kill off certain bacteria and with the ears being so close to the brain it is a scary thing. I know this is not what you wanted to hear but you are having extreme tissue reactions that are above and beyond what others suffer from. This is nothing to mess with. Irish ;D
Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll stop piercing my ears...No biggie really, I just wanted piercings all the way up. ;D
I'll live if I stay with just 4 ;)
Thanks Irish!
