Title: Taking medication
Post by: Sandra on September 19, 2008, 08:33:48 AM
Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. I was hoping there would be some advice out there about taking medication. I do pretty well on my regular stuff with the help of 40mg of losic, prednisone, forineff, synthroid in the am and amitriptyline in the pm but other than that I have a terrible time. I have been battleing chronic UTI's for the past year and have a terrible time with antibiotics. (macrobid) So bad that by the 3rd or 4th day I'm wondering what's worse the illness or the cure! I also have a prescrip for domperidone used for motility issues, have a terrible time with that. Even the plaquenil is bad. How on earth can I stop this problem. If I can't take the meds how will I ever get treatment? ??? Sandra

Hi Sandra....I had repeated UTI's. (Urinary Tract Infections)  Repeated doses of antibiotics were used and then a 3 month regime.

I had a cystoscope done and it showed a very irritated bladder lining.  A number of years later I now have Interstitual Cystitis which is a chronic imflamation of the bladder lining.

Do you have a urologist?  If not maybe you could ask for a referal.

Good luck and wishes

Hi Sandra,
I don't know if this medication would be appropriate for your situation, but you might ask your urologist about it.  I went through UTI's one right after the other like you are doing.  I was on verge of giving up ever having any peace from them.  Then my rheumy referred me to my urologist and in just 3 months he had me back on track.  It's been 14 mos. now without a UTI and I'm still amazed.

He put me on an "older" medication, he said wasn't used much anymore, but he had had good luck with it, so why change.  I love this man.  It's called Sanctura and he prescribed the 20 mg. tablet for me.  I take this about 3 or 4 times a week, it was every day the first 6 months.

It can't hurt to ask about it, perhaps it will work for you too.
