Title: Shingles
Post by: hidyhouse on September 12, 2008, 11:31:44 AM
Hello,

Has anyone else been diagnosed with Shingles after being on Methrotrexate?  I am into my 1st week of the blisters and am waiting to take my next dose of methrotrexate tonight....Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this and wondering how tonights meds might affect how I already feel with the Shingles.

Thanks for any response....

Kathy

Hi Kathy - no - no shingles here but I bet someone will come along with info as I've read about shingles in here before.  Darn painful I believe. I hope they ease off for you soon.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Kathy,
Welcome to the family, don't think I have met you yet.

I don't know if Sjogren's caused your outbreak or not, but there are quite a few members here that do experience bouts of shingles.  I'm sure having an autoimmune disease makes it easier to be effected by them.

Again welcome,

Pooh

Hello Kathy, there is an association between taking Methrotrexate and Shingles.  You need to talk to your doctor as soon as possible.  Here is a link that might help.  Look at the side effects.

I had a case of shingles a few months before I got the SS diagnosis.  I was put on prednisone and Valtrex (yuck).  I never felt well after that case of shingles.  I didn't start methotrexate until months later, so I can't comment on that.  I do think the shingles was a lead-in to Sjogrens making me really sick.  (I'm better now.)  Lucy
