Title: Back after a long absence
Post by: uker on August 27, 2008, 10:14:13 AM
Hello everyone, realised I have been out of touch with the community for a while now and as I am
in another flare thought I would say hello.
Husband (with cancer) is doing ok and currently in remission, although he has to have operation tomorrow
as his chest catheter site is infected.
And, we moved house.  Realised that life is too short to be renovating old cottages so bought a new
one close to family and grandchildren (3 and 17 months.)  This was really hard work as even with people
in to do the packing was still exhausting and obviously my husband is not up to lifting and unpacking.
But it was a good decision as the family are now 10 minutes up the road and we are closer to London where
the hospital is.
Had more bad news last week as my darling little granddaughter has just been diagnosed as totally deaf
so son and daughter in law are very upset.  Waiting for more tests to find out if anything can be done. What
a great year 2008 has been (not).
I have been on methrexate for nearly 5 months now and unfortunately very little is different so back to
see rheumy on Monday to find out what next.  She did mention Cyclosporine last time I saw her so must
look it up and see if anyone else on here has experience with this.  So far the only thing to make any real
difference were the prednisone injections and I know I cannot keep having these for a long time.
Must go and catch up with my reading.  I see there are plenty of newbies on here.
Does anyone know anything about the TNIF (I think) inhibitors I keep seeing in the newspapers related
to RA?

Uker its great to see you again!  I'm sorry you're still having such a rough time!  And that's sad news about your granddaughter... I hope she can be fitted for hearing aides that will help her!  Sending you good thoughts and hugs!

Hello Uker  :)

Good to see you after such a while. I'm glad to hear your husband's in remission and hope his op goes ahead as planned. 2008 seems to have been a bad year for lots of people.
Have you been given oral prdnisone? I know someone who takes them on a pretty regular basis and would be loathe to be without them.

Moving must have been really stressful but it sounds good to be near the family - and nearer the hospital. Makes a lot of sense all round.

With a deaf grandaugher - you, your son and his wife are just going to have to take BSL classes! (British Sign Language) It's a very rich language - not just English translated if you see what I mean. Then of course now there are cochlear implants.

Good to see you again anyway.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Uker

I as wondering where you were and how you were doing. You sounds as if you have had a rough ride, and I hope things calm down for you now.

Scottie's right about the cochlear implants.  Our local ent hospital was one of the first to do these, and has become a specialist centre. Hopefully, the little one will be offered them.

My prayers are with you and your husband.
