Title: I spoke too soon...
Post by: ktfabian on July 11, 2008, 04:08:36 AM
I promise this won't be a long rant ...my story is getting old, even to me.

But I wanted to let you know I'll be in and out for a while. My pain has ratcheted right up again and it's hard to sit at the computer.  (I'm here right now because it's also hard to sleep!) My pain doctor is referring me to a neurosugeon.   He hopes I don't need surgery, but he's running out of ideas for managing the pain and needs a better answer on what's causing it - a problem in the old fusion that developed after a car accident in 2003 but up til now was managed by my morphine pump) or the new, large herniation at the level above that fusion - or both.

Also, my family doctor was finally able to do a good exam of my knee that I injured in a fall about a month ago and she feels I may have torn a ligament.  I went for an MRI Wednesday, so we should know something by Monday. The knee is still pretty painful.

I'm back in the pool for therapy and haven't decided if it's helping or making things worse, I haven't been there long enough to tell yet.

In the good news department, my son is still only on stand-by for possible deployment to Iraq, he hasn't been put back on the "go" list.  They still have him going through all the steps for possible deployment, though, and 2 weeks ago, he went for a week of readiness training.  He walked out of here with a duffle bag about half filled and came back with so much more - basically everything he will need to deploy except his body armor - that our house is starting to resemble an Army supply depot.  As long as he stays on that stand-by list, though, they can store as much stuff here as they want!

Well, I'm going to try to get some sleep.  I'll catch up when I can,
Tracy

Hi Tracy,
Sorry to hear your back and knee are giving you so much pain.

Happy to hear that your son is still on "stand by" though.  Our granddaughter's hubby although back, is on the "re-deploy" list.  I was so hoping this mess would be over soon and none of our men and women would have to go.  We can only hope.

I hope you don't need any further surgery and the doctors can find some other way to help you.  Please let us know how you are doing.

Hugs, Pooh

Pooh,

I'm so sorry to hear that your Granddaughter's hubby looks to be going back.  I'm with you, it's time to end this mess.  They're wearing out our soldiers with all of this redeployment stuff.

My son hasn't gone yet, but we're pretty much resigned to the fact that, if he doesn't go this time, he'll got the next.  There's actually an advantage to going this time, if there could actually be such a thing - this deployment is job specific - so, if he goes, he goes as a generator repairman.  In a different deployment, they could possibly change his job to a combat position, as they did with my older son's roommate.

I don't want him to go now, but I don't want him going into the action in the next group either.  I know that's selfish on my part, but so be it, he's my baby.

I'll be praying for your grandson-in-law, I try to pray for all of the men and women over there, Afghanistan or Iraq.

Thanks for the good wishes.  The neurosurgeon doesn't have an opening til November, but the receptionist said that my pain doc could call and talk to their doctor and hopefully get me in sooner.  Otherwise, I'll be on the waiting list for a cancellation.

Take care Pooh,
Tracy

Hi Tracy,

Thanks for the update, but I wish it was better news for you. I'm sorry that you are still in such pain. Good luck at getting that appointment moved up sooner that November....thats too long to wait!

I am also glad that your son is still on "stand by" at this time. I'm with you and Pooh....its time for all of this to be over and done with already!

Keep us updated!
