Title: "Girl problems", freaking out, related to Sjogren's?
Post by: downrabbithole on June 29, 2008, 09:24:11 AM
I'm really not sure what's going on, and I felt like maybe you guys could help?

Sorry if this is overshare....

I have an upper respiratory infection and keep waking myself up by coughing every few hours. A little over 24 hours ago, I woke myself up coughing and noticed a rust colored discharge that looked like the beginning of my period. It definitely was more period-like than anything else.

I put on a pad, expecting to start my period, but over 24 hours later have not had any more blood....

I am sexually active, but use contraceptives and we're always careful. I haven't had sex that much this month and it seems too soon to have pregnancy symptoms.

I am not due for my period for a couple more days, although I am feeling "period-y" with the light cramping, bloating, heavy discharge and "the smell" you can smell (if you know what I mean gals...).

I just started Plaquenil this month and wonder if that has to do with it. Can copious violent coughing cause vaginal bleeding? Or should I start worrying about being pregnant?  ??? :o

My best advice is CALL YOUR DOCTOR and explain what has happened.  Let him/her decide if it's cause for an exam.

I do think this is the best, not only for your peace of mind, but just in case something more is going on.  Besides you really need something to clear up that congestion and cough.

Hugs, Pooh

I think you should get a pregnancy test to be careful and CALL THE DOCTOR!

My first guess is that this is a simple case of "break through" bleeding but since you have the infection and antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives (don't know what you are using) and since you have a funky Auto-Immune disease I would certainly SEE A DOCTOR.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Yep, I'm also in the "call the doctor and explain what's going on camp", and I also hope that you'll be feeling better soon!

Take care and keep us updated now -

Thanks guys.

I do need to see a doc for my infection, I do know that! heh.

I'm not on antibiotics or oral contrceptives, we've been using condoms every time.

You don't say why you are on Plaquanil, do  you have Sjogrens? if so the skin all over inside, and out becomes very thin due to the dryness, which can cause urinary infection s et'c.. maybe the coughing caused the skin to split and caused the bleed..I have problems with the skin splitting in and around my front passage, boy..does it sting when peeing!!        but I have to agree that it should be mentioned to your Doctor.. best wishes Dolly.

You're probably right. I used to bleed after sex sometimes, but they could never figure out what was wrong with me.

I think its too early to take a pregnancy test because I haven't missed my period yet. I'm still not due for my period for a little bit.

I know I need to go to the doctor, I just can't stand going to the gynocologist. Its somewhat traumatic for me for whatever reason.

First I would recommend a call to your doctor and a pregnancy test.  If you would be pregnant you would want to know this before taking any meds for what is causing the chest problems.  I will  also add that my daughter has had asthma all her life.  Whenever she has chest problems and is on medication it throws her hormones out of wake by either starting things early or slow things down.  There is no rhyme or reason to it.  Once when she was really sick she ended up having bleeding three times in one month. Whether the meds are playing a part or not it is wise to have your doctor filled in on what is happening.

It seems a bit early for a pregnancy test since I'm still not due for my period for a bit.

I asked my boyfriend about the condom usage, if something had happened, and he said no that everything seemed to stay in place.

I HOPE I'm not pregnant. I am not in a state to support a child...
