Title: Getting out of Dodge
Post by: eyeamdry on June 25, 2008, 07:45:28 PM
Hi folks,
Hubby and I, along with another couple are heading out into the Nevada desert for a few days of R&R.  We got a wonderfully CHEAP price of $149/person which includes air fare (So. Bend to Wendover NV) and hotel for 3 nights.  We'll be in one of the small gaming towns and I am really looking forward to this.  Seems like it went from winter here to torrential rains, all within a couple of weeks.  Just seems that way.

I've got my eye drops packed, Tranquileyes, Panoptx goggles, sun visor and I'm really, really excited.  Won't be able to sleep tonight.  Packing my swim suit as it'll be in the high 90's.  I love to swim and our hotel has 3 pools.  Some inside and some outside.  I'll be careful of being straight out in the sun, though.  I tell ya' packing all our pills is a real pain, but that's about the only thing you can't forget.  Most anything else can be bought if need be.  Hubby is not happy that I'm making him take his CPAP machine.  We've not taken it on a plane before and he's not thrilled.  That will be his "carry on" piece of luggage.  Hopefully, I'll be a rich gal when I get back and make a big donation to Sjogrens World.   ;D

What fun! Have a great time. There is no reason not to enjoy life and the company of friends, even if we have to haul all our equipment along.

Wowee Lucy, good for you.  ;D I've been to some of the smaller casinos but I've never been to Vegas. I know I would love it.

I love slots and they are even more fun when you win. Have fun and good luck.

Have a great vacation and good luck with the gaming. BTW, DH and I have dragged our CPAP machines everywhere without any problems.

You go , Girl! Have a great time and lots of luck.

I tease my son, when I see him getting on or off a plane with his CPAP, making him look like an important business man with a high end technical briefcase! Since he used to travel with only his backpack or a tote, it sure looks different! It's probably a nicer piece of luggage than any I own.

Lucy and Scottie, I noticed you both take your tranquileyes on the plane. Do you use the cold or hot therapy? How do you prepare them on the plane? I just flew cross country and had mine with me, but then I was in a quandry about quite how to use them in the air. I love them at other times.

Hi - i just made mine damp with bottled water. It just cut down on the dryness in the cabin.  :) (Long enough flight to sleep on too)

Hi everyone-  I'm back in Dodge with a grin on my face.  None the worse for wear, except being tired.  We were very pleasantly surprised with our trip.  The hotel was very opulent.  (I love that word.)  One of the nicest I've ever stayed, the other nicest ones being on business trips and paid for by the boss.  A lovely pool and pool area.  Decent restaurants at the hotel and little else except at one of the other 3 or 4 casinos.  Not much choice for eating and we ended up eating all our meals at one restaurant.  Ugh, I know, but at least the food was good and reasonable.  No buffets as they were too expensive.

The friends we went with were compatible on the trip.  That's always something I'm leary of.  We've known them for years but have never "gone away" with them.  They were not needy or clingy and we all got along great.  Hubby and I spent a couple of hours one afternoon at the pool area under a table umbrella.  We both went in the water for awhile.  I was careful to stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen.  (This is new to me and not in my nature.)  I drank zero alcohol and that didn't hurt to feel the best I could.  I rested when I needed to, but I can't really sleep away from home.

My "gambling" was mostly penny slots and I didn't lose the family farm.  In fact, I came home with a good chunk of the money I took to spend.  In northern Nevada, there is nothing much to look at.  The background looks like what I see in pictures of Iraq.  Dry, brown and dusty.   We enjoyed our el' cheapo trip and can't wait to do it again.  P.S. My eyes were no worse in the hot, dry climate.  I wore my Panoptx when outside.

Hi Lucy,

I'm glad that your trip went well for you!  It's always good to get away and just relax when you can; and to have decent company traveling with you too, well, that's as good as it gets!

I love the desert and I can't wait to move to the southwest one day when I grow up!

Lucy it sounds like you really enjoyed your trip.  Fabulous!! you deserved it so much.

I'm with you on the dry, dirty and dusty region.  Give me the mountain lakes and streams and forests.  Minus all bugs, especially ticks and spiders. ;D...............................oh yeah! and NO SNAKES.   :D

Take care and I hope you are rested up for another go at it.

Lucy, Sure sounds like you had a good trip.  Didn't lose much money, didn't get drunk, didn't get food poisoning, came home with the same man and much of your money. :P  Couldn't get any better than that. It is fun to travel and see the different motels/hotels, but I am with you---I need my own bed to sleep good. You deserved to have a good time after that rough several years you had.

Also, I like to visit the dry places but about 1 week is enough and I am ready for the green grass of home. irish ;D

Those of us who live in dry desert climates really appreciate the chance to visit places with a bit of humidity. I really think this climate  I live in is not good for sloggies. But it is not easy to just up and move. We must bloom where we are planted, but water would really help that blooming.

Im in the north of England and, though it is supposed to be summer, we have had so much rain this past week, it is unbelievable. Temperatures have not been very good either - mid '60's maximum, and my joints just donot like it at all.  I need some of your sunshine :)
