Title: Nails
Post by: fatburningmachine on June 19, 2008, 09:32:06 AM
I mentioned before that my nails are turnig brown and ugly.  My rheumy seems to think it is Sjorgrens related, but it seems that none of the rest of you have this symptom. Am I the only one with dry brown nails? Could it maybe a symptom of something else? Before someone suggested thyroid and we are looking into that more, but so far everything looks good on that angle

Hi Fbm  :)

I think it was me who suggested thyroid but I'm very pleased if it's not that and that everything is fine there. I just 'googled' brown nails and it suggested possible fungla infection but I guess if your doc has seen them - it can't be that either.

Wish I could be more help.   :-[

Take care - Scottie  :)

Scottie, thanks for your thoughtfulness. The Dr. and the nail techs say it isn't a fungus, but I wonder still, because we sjoggies are prone to yeast  in our mouths and elswhere.

When I flare, my nails get extremely dry/peel and lift away from the nail bed near the tip of the finger - I can see a red line where the nail bed attachment starts to loosen. I've never had them turn brown.

I would see a dermatologist as the Rheumy and nail techs may not be knowledgeable about diseases of the nail.
