My dry mouth problems through the night are getting so much worse. I have water beside me and I sip all night but I would love to get more rest. I have looked for sugar free sweets without any real success. My last attempt was in Asda and the only ones there were citrus drops. I was reluctant to buy these because I have read posts which say beware of the citrus ones because they are worse for the teeth, my teeth are not good. I don't enjoy the sucking of sweets in the night and sometimes I suck without anything in my mouth just to try to relieve the dryness. Has anyone found a supply? Here's hoping kelsey

My Dr actually prescribes Salivix pastilles specifically for dry mouths so you could ask your doc about that. There are sweets called Aquadrops that are sugar free and they come in an apple flavour as well as lemon.
There are also sugar free sweets called Sulas that come in several flavours. Tescos stock aquadrops and Sulas and my local chemist stocks Sulas and also some diabetic sweets and lollipops that are sugar free.

There is a shop near my work that has quite an array of sugar free sweets. I have only tried the citrus ones, but they upset my tummy. Next time I get the chance to go up there, I will get the brand name for you.

My daughter hates the name of those sweets. Her name is Sula but the sweets weren't around when she was called that. The sweets came out when she was beginning to go through the self conscious bit at school.
"Suck on a Sula" was a playground taunt she wasn't keen on!

Hi Kelsey, I don't think you should be sucking on candy while in bed during the middle of the night - safer to sip water. I've found a great mouth spray by Biotene helps in the middle of the night.

Hey, most pharmacies have a sugar free sweets section. I find the smaller local pharmacies stock more than the larger ones.
Hi Scottie and Kathy Thanks for the info I wrote the details into my diary with the intention of going to Tesco the following afternoon. Unfortunately my eyes decided it was their turn to misbehave so I ended up in eye casualty instead. A friend is coming tomorrow to take me to Tesco tomorrow so hopefully I will get the sweets. Hi Skylar I know it is not the best idea to suck sweets in bed but after sipping water for hours on end and getting weary with the cough and the dry mouth I have to do something to calm them down.
Hi Cassandra I have previously tried pharmacies without much success and I can't think why they seem to think it's such an odd request. Surely overweight people who like sweets must buy them!

Kelsey, my local Asda (Northumberland) sells sugar free sweets, lovely chewy fruits in a little pink box. I can't recall the name, but ask at the info desk.. Have you seen your Doc about this , I have awful dry mouth and mine gave me Oral Balance gel, it's about the best I have tried and you can buy it, but it costs £7-25 at Boots chemists... I get a monthly prescription of 1 tube, but I sometimes have to buy an extra tube.. Good Luck, Dolly

Hi Dolly Thanks for all the info. I will go to Boots and buy the gel prior to my next visit to the Dr. I don't know if other sjogries behave like me but I try to see the Dr as little as possible. My aim is to go only every six months when my HRT is due as it can't be put on repeat prescription. I never quite make it but .I see so many specialists I am at the hospitals every month. My Dr suggested that I asked for a copy of the letters they send to her so that I know as much as she does and don't need to see her. Thanks again kelsey
Hi Scottie had my big outing to Tesco and with the help of my friend found the sweets. Thought I would just tell you one strange thing. When she found the Aquadrops their were the two kinds you had mentioned but the citrus variety were 79p and the apple 40p. Lucky me that I wanted the cheaper but it did seem strange. Thanks kelsey

Kelsey, I think most of us don't visit our Doctor nearly as much as we should.. I don't even go when my review is up ,unless the Doc says I must see him before the next prescription will be given .. I only ever saw a Consultant about 10 years ago who just said, yep! i think you most likely have Sjogrens, Fortunately, I don't have any great pain issues, just weird goings on around my ribcage. The dryness is my big problem , eyes, mouth, skin & nails and the personal area !! I was on HRT quite some years back, but only for 18 months.. then I got a little wary about the bad reports it was getting...
The gel I recommended to you for the mouth has been great up until these past few month's but I am getting really dry mouth & nose at night too, and often a cough, I know I should use a humidifier in the bedroom, but I honestly don't find it much use either.. Eating can also be a pain at times, always have to have a drink with food.. It's yuk!!

You are certainly having a major dry out. How do you cope with so many areas? After asking for help re the dry mouth my eyes decided to take over. I am now on 4 different drops applied 18 times a day in total, and the Ophthalmologist said on Wedensday at least they are not dry but inflamed. I have worked out that I have to apply drops every 43 minutes so they should not be dry. There now seems to be no alternative but to increase the steroids, which are making the pressure rise, and once the inflammation is under control try to get the pressure down. I have been on HRT since 1976 and it appears to be one of the few drugs my system tolerates. The rheumys want me to stay on as they feel it helps my bones, but I stay on because it is the only thing that helps my migraine. On Wednesday I had a bone density scan so it will be interesting to see if my bones are still OK in spite of years of steroids. All I can say is keep lubricating and we will all pray for miracles. kelsey
