Title: Preparing for a new job-how to do it
Post by: kcoffiner on May 22, 2008, 02:27:32 PM
I am starting a new job soon and wanted to know any tricks I could use for my eyes. I know that I will need drops but wanted to know if onion goggles help at all. I will be working on the computer and am scared of how that will play out. So far I use contact lenses as a bandage but am open to any new ideas. In addition to low tear count I have fast evaporative time. Thanks so much!

I'm excited for you, but I know you must be nervous!  I worked as a secretary for 5 years after lasik did my eyes in.  Some things you already know because there is useful info on the internet.  You can be proactive, too.  Try to use breaks to rest your eyes by closing them.  You can do drops and sit somewhere quietly with your eyes shut without being obvious.  On lunch, do the same.  This is how i made it through.  I also had an icepack in the office frig that I put on my eyes while I was resting them, but this is a little too obvious to start a job! 8)

When you get home, you'll want to rest your eyes, I'm sure.  Try and get enough sleep and be able to do your "eye routine" and that will go a long way to a successful job!  If you have the Onion glasses, take them with you to work.  Or buy a pair to see if you might want to use them at work or at home.   Good luck and have a relaxing time before you start your new job.

Thanks Lucy! I actually had the day off and read a book, with me and my dry eyes that is very much an accomplishment

I have Gunnar Computer Glasses. They work great for my eyes! I usually stare at my laptop for hours at a time and the screen always hurts my eyes until I got my Gunnars.

I also recommend downloading a program on your computer called "f.lux" .    It makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day. No bright, sharp blue glow.  In short, it makes working at your computer easier on your eyes.  I highly recommend it (found it from the Dry Eye Zone).
