A few interesting things.
My new rheumie today told me that she HAS heard of the weird thing I'm suffering from with Sjs. That is dry mouth with at times some over production of saliva. She right away said she has heard of it.
I did see two old posts on this forum discussing it. And likewise at another location...similar. Uncommon. But it happens.
It's MADDENING. Dry mouth in the back with weird unhelpful saliva toward the front that can make me drool.
Someone told me what she does and it HELPS ALOT. One of the few sjs patients I found with this horror.
She chews 1/2 a piece of gum most of the day. Oddly ...not a full piece. A half. Goodness, it helps a TON. A full piece might cause the saliva to come. Doing nothing causes the dry mouth to worsen. Pilcarpine causes the saliva to worsen. I felt stuck. A piece of gum sometimes causes the saliva to worsen. 1/2 of a piece of gum ...om goodness. Fixes BOTH the dry mouth and the sometimes extra saliva (this is not normal saliva...it's more like water).
I don't like chewing gum all the time. BUT, it is mega helpful and not as obvious with such a small piece.
I hope this might help someone.
I'm going to see an ent too , in case there is a stone or something. Sigh. I'm praying it's nothing serious. It's all so crazy.
