Title: Dry Eye - Steroids?
Post by: SjoDry on October 12, 2022, 10:08:53 AM
For all of my smart Sjoggie-mates... I have had dry eye for years and am on Restasis. I have launched into the worst dryness and itching I have ever had. My eye sockets are even sore. Seriously, it looks like I have zombie eye make-up on.

Do docs ever give steroids for this?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how long you have been on the Restasis, but my optometrist gave me 7-10 days of low dose steroid eye drops to decrease my sore eyes before she put me on the Restasis. She said this works quite well as it keeps people from having the sudden soreness and pain when they start the drops. Also, wonder if cutting down to once a day would help.

Also, many people swear by using lubricant eye drops 15 min. before putting eye drops in and 15 minutes after the drops. I would not use the cheaper OTC counter eye drops as so many of them have other chemicals in them that irritate the eyes. Another thing people do is to store the Restasis in the refrigerator cause the coolness help cut down on the irritation. Let them warm up a few minutes before you use them.

But first of all, before you do anything it would be extremely wise to go back to your eye doctor and see what she will do. You might ask if Restasis makes a lower dose eyedrops. I know that I heard this years ago but haven't had to investigate it myself. If it was me and I had such sore eyes I would quit the drops and get to the eye doctor as you do't want to make your eyes worse. Good luck. meirish

I've been put on a tapering course of steroid eye drops twice - and once had 'concretions' removed.

I couldn't tolerate Restasis. It made my eyes feel as though I'd squeezed lemon juice in them - and not just when I put it in. It really didn't suit me at all.

I hope you can get prescribed what you need to help.

Take care - Scottie  :)
