We've always enjoyed sitting outside in the evening around a small campfire. It's so relaxing. But the last couple times I've noticed myself coughing a lot after going to bed. Then last night, the "smoke followed beauty" relentlessly (anyone remember that old saying?) and it constantly blew my direction. And I started coughing...until I almost threw up. I coughed hard for 20 minutes and just couldn't get my breath. Afterwards my lungs and throat felt raw for a good 24 hours. I have "chemical" and "cold" induced asthma with my sjogrens and am guessing this was something like that. I know no one has answers. It's just one of those things. I'm just feeling sad that one of the few things I enjoy is turning into ANOTHER sjogrens limitation.

Yes campfires, bbq fire or basically any fire or fumes hurt me too. Even candlelight has become unbearable. Probably due to the toxins and heat which lower air humidity.
So I've learned to welcome the 'glow' of an electric candle. And I use a water heated grill as an alternative to a bbq.
Yes dee, I can relate to that also. I can't take campfires at all and it really does make me unhappy as it is fun sitting out with others and eating all the snacks. I have that asthma also and we had to give up our 2 wood stoves that heated a lot of our home back in the late 1980's because I would get such a tight chest and plugged up sinuses. I am not a coughing asthmatic, I am one when exposed to a chemical of any kind or dust and construction, odor from new cupboards, etc. my chest tightens up very fast so I am very careful. I avoid this or leave the area as soon as I can. Have to admit I have worn a lot of masks over the years to endure chemicals where it would work. Take care. meirish
I used to love to camp. When I got Fibro the fun left. I had a small fire and the smoke followed me. I had to put it out and go inside. I have an ionizer in the house. The smoke from the fires out west was hard to take when we went out. Take care of yourselves.
You're not alone. I have the same problem. I also have issues with having a fire in our fireplace. I really miss it.
