Hello,
I've never really taken Omega 3s but I think I'll try. The pills are so big tho I'm worried about choking.
I can eat a small amount of sardines, etc. but if I'm not careful it will give me gout. Salmon is OK but wouldn't I have to eat a ton of it to get the required amount?
Any input appreciated.
Thanks,
Marie
I take a medicinal dose 5600 unit per day to lower cholesterol.
Thank you Joe.
I get my Omega 3 from flaxseed capsules. (I'm a vegan so didn't want to take cod liver oil). On the jar it is recommended to have two a day, which would provide 1,000mg Omega 3. However I just take one a day as I couldn't see any difference when I took more.
Many brands produce a smaller gelcap or capsule, I've found the ones sourced from Krill seem to be the smallest.
While there are no real guidelines on how much is a suitable daily dose, remember that the effective ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 is important, and Omega 6 is readily available in our diets so many people have a much higher ratio than the recommendation, so the options are decreasing the dietary intake of Omega 6, or balancing it with Omega 3.
"The recommended ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in the diet is 4:1 or less. However, the Western diet has a ratio between 10:1 and 50:1. Therefore, although omega-6 fats are essential in the right quantities, most people in the developed world should aim to reduce their omega-6 intake ( Exp Biol Med (Maywood NJ))"
Thank you all so much for the replies.
I'll look into some of the smaller capsules.
The info on the balance of 6 and 3 is good. Thank you.
Marie
