Has anyone ever experienced a rash on their face from plaquenil? I had to go without my plaquenil (long story about insurance etc..) and this red rash that I had on my face went away. I know plaquenil can cause rashes in the sun but I was wearing sunscreen and it was winter. I wasn't outside much. I haven't tried wearing a hat all the time. Can plaquenil just cause rashes even without the sun?? I went to a dermatologist and they said the rash was rosacea. The rheumy thought it was rosacea. The creams for rosacea didn't work all that well. I don't think it was rosacea.
I was hoping I'd be ok without the plaquenil but the joint pain has come back. So, unfortunately, I'll have to start it again. Kind of disappointed but I guess that's how it goes.
I wish I had the answer for you Deb. You know that any med can cause a rash any place and any time. You could have rosecea as others on here have been surprised by it and If I remember correctly it hard to keep it tamed down.
The only thing I can think to do is to try taking 200 mgm a day and see if that is enough to help with the aching. There have been a few people on here who could do the 200 mgm with results. If you need to increase to 2 tabs then you would sort of be doing it slowly. You body will get used to the 200 and not start out bam on the 400. Hope this helps. Irish
Thank you for your response Irish. I am starting back on the 200 mgs now that I have the generic brand that doesn't upset my stomach. We'll see if the rash starts back. I am going to try a stronger sunscreen/moisturizer on my face and wearing a hat when I go out.
