My daughter just sent me the link that will follow. Does anyone know anything about taking NAD+ precursors such as nicotinamide riboside which can be bought online? This does sound very promising. I am debating buying some niagen. Opinions? Thanks. https://hms.harvard.edu/news/new-discovery-regulating-autoimmune-diseases?fbclid=IwAR0-Vs09CzqTJnWGXn64TpFZwB2avfhiEWHkEVTV9po8NKQXvIrNrsf-Tdg
I just did a read through the article about the Harvard study. It sounds good that is for sure. I would check with the doctor first to make sure that it is ok to take that supplement. Even though a pill is a normal part of our bodies requirements, it still can cause trouble if mixed in with pills that don't work together well.
I have something bugging me about B3 and I can't remember what it was. I know it was an article about B3 and B6 regarding which one to use under certain circumstances.....just be aware cause it was of interest. Good luck. Irish
Thanks Irish! I will do some more research online. Yes, I used to run things past my doctor, but I'm finding they aren't always up-to-date on supplements, etc. I'm sure it's another "pie-in-the-sky" for now. I just get excited about anything I read that may help! I know there are people on these boards who are a lot more science-inclined than myself and thought I would ask before I bought the expensive niagen supplements to try (which I will hold off on for now). Thank you for your thoughts!
Thanks for posting this Janny.
However, take note that this study is not new- it's from 2014.
What research has been done on this concept since?
OK, I did some searching.
The most recent studies I found on NAD + that are relevant for autoimmune conditions are:
2016: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27500459
2017: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27474445
These studies were conducted on mice, not on humans.
I would however conclude that it is definitely worth looking into,
especially given our limited treatment options at present.
I personally would be willing to give it a try. :)
I am wondering if you ran across any info ono the side effects of the product. Even when the doctors don't have any info on the product one would do well to find some info someplace. There can be some weird effects from some of these products. Soo many of them cause kidney or liver damage. Try going to the library or to a book store to see if there is info. Good luck. Irish
Sharon, can't believe I didn't notice the date! My daughter sent it to me and said it was new. She is a very sharp girl, so I didn't look! But, thanks for retrieving recent research. I am thinking after the holidays I may buy one of the precursors and try to see if they help me at all. Irish, so far all I can find about side effects are that people claim it gives them energy and reduces signs of aging (though there are some reviews that say it didn't do anything). The research seems to be all over the place, as usual, so it's hard to tell. If you do try it Sharon, please report back, as will I! Thanks guys and hope you both have a wonderful holiday!!
Irish- I haven't found anything indicating troublesome side effects so far. BTW- there is so much information available online nowadays that libraries have become a thing of the past.
Janny- I'm currently trying to decide what brand to purchase and to determine what dosage might be beneficial for our condition based on studies.
If you have any suggestions please let me know!
I've been using a product named Basis for about two years.
It's anecdotal, but I haven't had a "flare up" of my symptoms during this time, and I've dropped my cevimeline dosage to two pills per day (from three). There are periods where I still do three a day as my dryness seems to increase, but I probably go at least half the year at two pills per day.
I cannot say that I've noticed any other differences with the supplement, but I've also just been dealing with the dryness and don't have the other symptoms that many of you do.
I also cannot attribute the lessening of symptoms to the supplement itself.
Pete
I know libraries are a thing of the past, but there are quite a few books out there from years gone by that are about natural drugs, etc. Most of these have a whole litany of supplements and often one can find listed a supplement that doesn't show up at other plaices. Years ago I bought a good book on supplements but it had just a small mouth of supplements in it. I couldn't afford one of the big books. I check out Barnes and Noble at times and run across things I never found on line ion my research. I still like the smell of books and like ego hold them. :-XIrish
I just wrote a big long paragraph and my hand hit something and it all flew away.
Anyway, I read the article and wanted to reach out and make it make me well, but I know things aren't that simple. I don't know the dosage or how it would interact with all my meds so I will wait to hear more.
Before my mom died she suffered terribly with burning in her legs and feet(peripheral neuropathy). She was always ordering anything she read about to see if it helped, and then one day she said her pain would stop when she died.
I do agree that there are good older books to be found on natural things that were sold to share what the author had found out instead of authoring to the latest products out. I also love a good "real book." I bought my son 2 real ones for his birthday this month.
Thank you for sharing the article with us. :)

Pete-What dosage have you been taking? Did you try any other brands?
Irish- New research is always being done so I don't know how up-to-date older books are.
Susan- There are sites that check medication/supplement interactions that you can refer to.
Sharon thank you for reminding my slow brain that I can look up online about interactions. My husband usually hears me wondering about that, and he ends up looking for me.
I have been having worse brain fog or just plain memory issues lately. I can tell my husband something, and not long after I am thinking about something else I can't remember what I just said to him.
I love hearing all the things all of you find to share with us. I need to do some more looking around myself. If I find anything else on it , I will share it too.

I use their standard dose of two pills, which provides 250mg of nicotinamide riboside and 50mg of pterostilbene
hi everybody the nicotinamide you are speaking about could be the SOLGAR ?
Ok, I ordered Tru Niagen. Why not, is my idea.
Here's another article, not research exactly:

My immunologist believes that cytokines are the basis of my Immune System attacks, soooo.....I thought NAD might help??
Clutching at straws?

Dear Bluegardenia,
Solgar is a company that makes many supplements. As far as I can tell it doesn't make a supplement with NAD+.
