I've had ankle pain in the past, usually when I wear certain shoes or booties in the fall and winter. Last night for the first time I had shooting pains across the top of my ankle, right where it meets my foot. The pains were short and intense, like muscle spasms but it didn't feel like muscle pain (I told my husband it felt like someone pulling a piano wire across my ankle, he thinks it may be nerve pain). Any of you ever had such a pain in this location? What did it turn out to be?
I don't know what it is but any time a person with an autoimmune disease (especially sjogrens) has strange pains in muscles/joints, etc always try to rule out tendon pain. People with Sjogrens have a lot of tendon involvement that is inflammatory. Try to keep from over stretching muscles joints etc to prevent problems.
I went to the garden to pull a weed about 6 years ago and the tendon in my left little finger ruptured. I didn't go to the doctor and he told me I could have had a repair done if I came in within 24 hours. It required 2 surgeries and my little finger is so small that I knew it was not worth doing anything. Plus I was around 70 years old then and didn't think I would need it much. :)
My son with bad autoimmune jumped out of bed very suddenly when the smoke detector went off at 3 AM. He ruptured his achilles tendon in heel and needed surgery and missed 6 months of work. We have to make sure to stretch slowly and not do rings too fast. Give these tendons a chance to warm up and loosen up. I have all kinds of crampy weird things that come and go and I just baby them along. There are a lot of people on this site that have tendon issues. Just a thought for you to wonder about. Irish
Irish,
I am thinking of a tendon as well. I have had issues with others, though nothing as bad as you or your son. I did do some stretching the day it was hurting maybe too much so!
I sure do agree with irish on the tendon pain.
I never would have believed it until after breaking my wrist. My wrist bone is completely healed, but the tendons are something else. I am having pt just for them, and my pinky finger even gives me bad pain. All my finger swell along with the whole hand, so I have to do the exercises twice per day everyday to even keep them limber.
susanep :)
susan I'm so sorry to hear this. If it gets worse I'll see a doc. I'm about to start a Medrol pack and am curious to see if that has an impact.
