Hello all,
I type a lot and am having increasing issues with my hands (RA and OA in addition to SJS). I have been advised to consider using splints but was told by the doc that I just have to find ones that work for me. Are any of you using splints for typing or other chores? Do they help? Has a specific type, not a brand but a type, proven useful?
FYI I have the big splint with the metal rod to wear at night, I'm thinking about something smaller for daytime use.

I am also having pain after I type for awhile. For me it's in my wrists now.
It was suggested I try using small pillows to prop my wrists on while typing
or rice-filled bags.
I've found that any of the rigid splints interfere with my typing, I have them for both wrists and thumbs with metal support, but i have some compression arthritis gloves with open finger tips that i use when I need dexterity (typing, sewing or handcrafts, painting etc) and they help, but if i use them for prolonged periods, i have to go to the fiberglass full hand and forearm half casts at night for a few nights to fully recover
There have been some black slightly padded wrist splints that wrap around the thumb and the upper hand also. They don't go up over the wrist as far. They keep the wrist from bending and keep the thumbs from moving too much. They have one strap to keep things tight. You might need 2-3 kinds of wrist splints to get you through the day and then wear the heavy duty ones at night. Good luck, Irish
Thanks all. I have been using crafter's gloves for years but they aren't doing the trick anymore. I appreciate all of the ideas. Looks like I'll be testing out some new accessories! (Unfortunately, the hot pink hand braces that I wanted were out of stock on Amazon, LoL!)
