I take a PPI. I do not know if it is thicker of thinner as I have no saliva. That is why I sip water all day.

I took a PPI for over 20 years, long before my eye and mouth dryness began.

I stopped taking the PPI, in 2016,  once I no longer took NSAID's which damaged my gastro-intestinal system unless I took Omeprazole.

I noticed no change in my saliva or tears when I stopped.  In the past year or so, my eye and mouth dryness has gotten much more severe.  I imagine that is just the progression of my Immune Disorder.

Regards,  Elaine

when I started my dry mouth and the journey to diagnosis, the first question all the doctors made was which medicines do you take. I was taking PPI since at least 15 years without any side effect but  the opinion of doctors was that my mouth was dry because of PPI.then  arrived lip biopsy and at least the satisfaction to tell them that I was not crazy.
but when I restarted to take omeoprazole some time ago  , in fact I noticed that my saliva was thicker so now I am on ranitidine that does not bother me but  on my opinion is less effective when I have a flare of gastritis.
so i was sharing what here in Europe is written in the paper inside the box of the medicine(it can  give dry mouth) and my personal experience

Hi  :)

I took Omeprazole for 12 years but last February I had a Toupet fundoplication done, which fixed a hernia and wrapped tge stomach so the acid doesn't come up any more. Haven't had to take Omeprazole since. Have noticed less bloating - but no noticeable change in saliva.

Take care - Scottie  :)

I prefer to take baking soda powder in water rather than any of those PPIs.
Works the same on acidity.

My mouth was no better or worse regarding saliva production after I started on a PPI. I believe that it independently got more and more dry until I had to take Evoxac, which has been a godsend.
