Title: Remedy for dry lips / mummy mouth?
Post by: Maria3667 on November 21, 2018, 03:52:29 PM
Hi everyone,

So far I've managed to get dry mouth under control with low dose Dhea (touch wood!). Unfortunately I can't say the same for the outside of my lips. They hurt, sting and atrophy and thus at 51 years of age the dreaded 'mummy mouth' is appearing.

Anyone have a clue to what might help improve/reverse this? I feel I'm too young having to live with this old age manifestation (yet)...

Hi,  Does mummy mouth mean lines all around your lips?   As if you have smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day?  If so, I have it too.   I do not smoke.   Just used it as an example.  What in the world can we do about it?????      Bobbie DeWitt

Hi Bobbie,

Yes that's what it is, like the parched mouth of a mummy.  >:(
I've been reading up on it and wonder if it can be caused by lymphocyte infiltration? I never had a lip biopsy because my symptoms are obvious to the eye.

There are some interesting terms to look up like 'cheilitis' (simplex, not angular).

Do you also have the 'vermilion border' disappearing? That's the distinctive line surrounding the lips. Mine seems to be fading...

My hunch is, if it's really caused by lymphocytes it should be treated. Yesterday I applied Clotrimazol (antifungal, over the counter) 4x during day and the pain, dryness and outward appearance improved!

My best,
Maria
