Title: Tachycardia
Post by: Sharon on November 11, 2018, 12:58:58 PM
Now I've developed sudden heart racing and pounding episodes that usually happen when I lie down to sleep
and sometimes upon waking.
A 48 hour heart holter test confirmed this and I have beem diadnosed with Tachycardia of unknown origin.
I have no thyroid issues, I eat a clean diet, don't smoke, drink or take toxic substances.
So what is suddenly causing this?  :(
Anybody know of a connection between Tachycardia and Sjogren's?

There have been a few people on this site who have had tachycardia and bradycardia(slow) that was related to Sjogrens. It was determined that the nervous system was affected which in turn caused heart rate interference. On lady needed a pacemaker and later on a defibrillator.

I would find a good cardiologist who is open to this strange autoimmune issue. Some doctors don't want to believe that autoimmune can be involved in some of the strange thing we seem to be afflicted with. Good luck. Irish

Thanks irish, that makes sense.
So difficult to find knowledgeable doctors!

I have an elevated heart rate for a period of time most days. The highest is 120 beats per minute. Most of the time not over 110. It makes a little tired. It usually only last about an hour. When this first happened to me about 11 years ago I asked my family doctor and she wasn?t concerned at all. This started when I got Sjogren?s. I never had it before. I feel my nervous system is affected with Sjogren?s. I have gastroparesis as well.

I am now 63 years old and wonder if I should be concerned. I am thinking about buying a kardiac mobile which will do an EKG.

If you find out anything I would be interested.

Anna

Ohio lady, I think it might be wise for you to see a cardiologist. Since you have had this for such a long time it might be wise to be re -evaluated. There are new testings and knowledge that occurs over the years. You might get more info at this time. The one thing to be concerned about is heart enlargement from the heart working so hard.

I have a son who is 50 who has developed the rapid heart thingy and I am trying to get him to have more assessment. He has no autoimmune diagnosis but I think something is going on. He has so much body pain and tendon problems. My other 2 boys have autoimmune issues so it sort of is inherited, sad to say. Good luck to you. Irish

I have had this symptom and for me it was POTS/dysautonomia. It's funny because usually POTS causes tachy while standing, not lying down, but apparently that is also possible. I would investigate autonomic causes. Electrolyte balance can also be an issue.

I sometimes have tachicardia after meals or if I lie down with bad digestion. stomach pushes on heart and so it starts, but I never arrive to 90, my usual beats are 58 60 so 80 for me is scaring. I make 48 hours holter every 4 months because  with my bradichrdia I lose some beats when I sleep.

I'm seeing a neurologist who specializes in dysautonomia on December 17th for work up for this. I have been very symptomatic my self. The biggest symptom for me is after I shower in warm water my heart rate goes up to 137 bpm! I'm also completely out of breath and weak and have to lie down for about 15 minutes. I had some near fainting spells in the shower, so I finally invested in a shower stool. I also get this weakness in my legs and breathlessness when I get up from a chair and start walking. Other than that I have no breathing issues at all and my last ct scan of the lungs were actually improved. That's why I'm being sent for dysautonomia work up. Also I have a normal, very low blood pressure.

bluegardenia- This is an interesting thought....I have also noticed it often happens if I lie down after meals. My digestion is generally off. I'll look into this possiblity, thanks!

Nymph & Tharrell- I also have many symptoms of dysautonomia. Is there any way to treat dysautonomia in general or are all the treatments symptomatic?

Also consider food intolerances .. hard to pin down sometimes.

I don't know what the treatment are for dysautonomia since I haven't had my appointment yet. Sorry.

Sharon, I don't know your age, but am fairly certain that the risk for tachycardia increases as we age. Is there a history of heart disease or sudden deaths with no known reason?

Heart issues are not to be ignored, hope you can find a good cardiologist.

There are many different causes of and treatments for dysautonomia. Unfortunately it is often a lengthy trial-and-error process.

Update: the doctor told me to download an app called "Heart Rate" and use it to check
myself when I feel the palpitations.

Sharon, when you find a link to the specific app would you please share it with us? I am having occasional bouts of irregular heartbeats, I would welcome being able to track them and see if I can ID a cause.

Sure Sjogirl, he recommended the app called: "Instant heart rate: HR monitor"
You download it free.
