More evidence surfaces almost monthly with scientific studies that Sjogren's is related to whacky levels of hormones, especially testosterone. Yes even in male patients!
Quote:
"I see an increasing number of men with 'male menopause' experiencing DED (Dry Eye Disease). Often times they have already been diagnosed with low testosterone."

Thanks for this Maria.
My question is: If we are lacking in testosterone why doesn't the deficiency show up in hormone blood tests?
My results are always within the normal range for women though towards the lower end which is why no endocrinologist agrees that I need to supplement with testosterone cream or anything else.
BTW- When I did use testosterone cream it didn't help any sicca symptoms but did give me more energy.
Hi Sharon,
Maybe because there is no universal consensus amongst physicians what Sjogren's exactly entails.
Dry eyes and mouth are Hallmark symptoms of Sjogren's, but do we all have the same syndrome/disease? Is the root cause different?
Maybe it didn't improve dryness for you because of other low/missing hormones such as estrogen and DHEA (or others), as the Italian study I posted earlier, claims. Or maybe your dose was too low?
But time and again, androgens come out as the top player in Sjogren's.
